My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Arlo is a handsome, two year old boy who is a yellow lab or mix of that breed, possibly with greyhound, pointer, or another type of hound and he weighs about 55 pounds. He'€™s an active boy that needs daily exercise and would excel at obedience or agility classes. He has been to doggy day care to help drain his energy but does the best when he can have just one active dog in his home - he LOVES to play with his furry foster sister. He plays hard but is respectful when she tells him she has had enough. He loves racing around the fenced yard with his fast graceful legs. Another one of his favorite activities is going on leash walks on a local trail with his canine friends. Once exercised he will settle down close to you. When Arlo first arrived in Maine, he experienced separation anxiety and had a bumpy start. His foster home has been working with him and slowly teaching him that it'€™s okay to be left alone with his furry sister. Now they stay alone during the day with no crates and he does not disturb a thing!

Arlo will only be considered for adoption into a home with another canine friend. He is extremely friendly and loves every person he meets. Unfortunately he sometimes shows you this by jumping, or pawing at you. He takes some time to settle down so his new family will have to continue his training with this. At first he will forget his manners and jump up but he's learning that this is not okay and that he can get your attention and a treat by sitting nicely . He would benefit from attending an obedience class with his new owners to polish up those manners! He has learned quickly and he can't wait to show you his smarts! He would be ideal in a class like "noseworks" where he would shine! He could really show his intelligence and eagerness to please.

Arlo would be a great dog for a young active person or couple. He is an excellent listener, especially indoors, but with good leadership and continued training he will learn to carry this over outdoors. If you had an overlapping schedule so that he didn't have to be alone too much he would love that. He is crate-trained but does not use it when he is home with his foster sister. He is fed in his crate with the door open.

Arlo's prey drive leads us to believe he would not be a good match with cats but this has not been formally tested. He is a little too bouncy and jumpy for small children right now. He loves to chew but only appropriate things like Nylabones, antlers, etc. Stuffed toys are a waste of money because they only last a few minutes If Arlo is in the room! He enjoys toys made for "tough chewers"

He enjoys car rides and will happily go with you on your errands. He sits quietly in the back, enjoying the smells coming through the window. Arlo knows a lot of commands and hand signals and is a very curious guy. He is very attentive to his human, looking to see what he can do next for praise and a treat. He can have difficulty meeting some dogs on leash but off leash such as at day care or the dog park, he does really well.

He craves attention, he is just dying to be someone's constant companion. He is constantly dropping and showing his belly in the hopes of getting some love. His favorite thing to do is chew on a bone and have his belly rubbed at the same time.

Arlo is a happy, loving dog with a big heart and lots of love to give! It will be hard not to fall in love with this guy. If you think you could be the right home contact us today!

Please note: We do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.

Thank you for considering rescue! Arlo is being fostered in southern Maine while he waits to find his active and fun forever family.
