My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

PLEASE CLICK ON "READ MORE ABOUT THIS PET" FOR COMPLETE INFORMATION!

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

King is a 3 year old mixed breed dog whose elderly owner died and he ended up in a shelter SE of the metro. He is 80 pounds with tall legs and appears to be a mix of lab and shepherd. (We thought perhaps he had great Dane but he isn't tall enough) King gets along very well with his four canine foster brothers who are all 90-100 pounds!!! He's on a hobby farm and listens well to foster dad and stays close by when they are out hiking or working about the place. While King lived with cats before, at the shelter he was a little too interest in them so he should probably be in a cat free home. To our knowledge he hasn't lived with children in the past, so kids 10 and up would be best in his new home. King seems to be able to escape fences if he chooses so he would do well with an electric fence or a privacy fence. He would love to have another playful dog 50 in his new home or he could be a good hobby farm dog if an electric fence was used. He has played politely with much smaller dogs. King has good indoor manners and doesn't chew anything. He is house trained and after his experience in the shelter he detests being kenneled; this is extremely stressful to him. King is with a 501c3 rescue. His adoption fee is one dollar per pound--$80.00!!!!! King is neutered, heartworm tested and on prevention, is up to date on shots for parvo, distemper and rabies, has been wormed and he has a HomeAgain microchip. If you like large dogs this is your new best friend!

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.

• Homeowners: REQUIRED

• Status of adopter: 30+

• Previous dog owning experience: Required

• Age of children: Teens

• Another dog in the home: Large playful dog strongly preferred unless he is home with his human much of the time

• Cat(s) in the home: NOT SAFE WITH CATS

• Fenced yard: If in the city, Electric fence, 6 foot privacy fence desired; or hobby farm where he will learn to "stay home"

• Time alone on work days: King can be home alone for a work day as long as there is another dog to keep him company.. On a hobby farm he can be inside and outside if there is a barn or heated outbuilding. King knows how to use a doggie door
