Abby's Story...
Meet Abby! She is a 7 year old Akita who came to our shelter when her time at a local pound had run out. She ended up in the pound after her owners were evicted from their home and left Abby tied up on a 4 foot chain in their backyard. Abby is a tough girl and will need to be adopted to an adult home with experience in owning Akitas or similar breeds. For those who know the breed, they are strong willed and stubborn dogs but exceptionally loyal to their person. Abby gets along fine with the other dogs in her foster home but needs a home WITHOUT cats! To meet her, call us (203) 985-8338 or email HalfwayHomeOnline@yahoo.com

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Abby, a North Haven Akita dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Akita for sale in North Haven, or seeking a Akita dog from a breeder in North Haven.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in North Haven already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a North Haven breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Akita breeders who help with Akita rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in North Haven paves the way for another one to be saved.
