Meet the resident 8 year old clown, Fabian. Short and compact with a face no one can resist. Loves everyone including dogs but no cats! Goofball extraordinaire describes Fabian to a tee. This is a special dog that needs a special home. He has brought much joy into my life.
Personality: I went to the shelter to pick up a badly injured boston terrier and they asked if I would also take a French Bulldog needing eye surgery. I was overloaded with foster dogs already but wanted to take a look. One glance at this silly boy and I could not resist taking him home.
Fabian had been picked up 11 times running loose by animal control and each time the previous owner had been told she needed to provide medical care for his eye, which was severely sunken in and weepy. But each time the dog was picked up again by animal control running loose the eye was the same and so he was turned over to us for care.
We had Fabian's eye removed, started drops on his other eye to prevent losing it as well, had a large benign mass from his neck removed, a much needed dental with 4 teeth pulled, and surgery to open his nostrils to help him breathe easier. Fabian loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs. He gets a bit cranky the first time a new person puts in his eye drops, but when shown his treat bag he quickly sits nicely for them. He loves going for walks and car rides. He will try to chase cars as they drive past so needs to be securely leashed when out. When the neighborhood gardeners come by with their lawn mowers and leaf blower Fabian barks like crazy. It makes me wonder if perhaps the gardeners at his old house kept letting him out to avoid him?
Fabians one draw back is that he possibly had a back issue. He does not seem to feel the sensation of bowel movements or the need to urinate. Although he has never pooed in my house, as soon as he goes out side he will just be walking and pooing at the same time. The good news is he is on a very regular schedule and goes twice daily after eating morning and evening. He will try to lift his leg but does not seem to be able to hold it up very long so as he's walking he pees on his back feet. It's not that big a deal he just needs a wipe up when he comes in from pottying outside. I just keep a box of baby wipes next to my backdoor and wipe his back legs down as soon as he comes in. A foster mom made him a darling pair of pants to avoid any leakage in the house and all it takes is an infrequent change of kotex pad a couple of times a day.
This boy is really special, very affectionate, and loves attention. His favorite treat is a bully sticks. He will protect them against other dogs so should be crated when chewing on them if another dog is present.
Fabian's adoption fee is $250.
Issues: Fabian had to have an eye removed due to extreme dry eye. His one remaining eye is also affected but as long as he gets eye drops twice daily it is fine. Fabian may have had an injury to his back at sometime in his past and is not able to direct his urine. He pees when walking and shoots his back legs so he needs a wipe down with a baby wipe when he comes in from pottying. We just keep a pack by the back door and a quick swipe and he is good to go. Fabian is aggressive with bully sticks and they should never be left out in the presence of other dogs. In his current foster home he is more laid back and will chew his special keys and hoofs on my bed with another foster dog chewing hers by my feet. Barks at gardeners and lawn mowers. Will try to chase cars so must be leashed.
