Tooka, formerly named Princess, is an owner surrender who has been in the care of a professional dog trainer to learn acceptable dog behavior and mannerisms. How many people can say their dog was trained by a professional? Her trainer says: Tooka looks to be part Basenji. Her mannerisms and temperament are so much like Basenji...catlike--clever, inquisitive, independent. She is completely fabulous. Tooka listens well and is consistently trying to please. She does not have major issues, nor any types of anxieties. Tooka came to me with possible problems with thunderstorms or crates, but that didn't really manifest itself and if so, those issues are no longer a concern. (She slept through the last major storm we had.) Tooka LOVES to run and play with other dogs. She is not intimidated with ANY size and is a bit stubborn when a new dog comes for boarding. Stubborn, meaning she tries to make them her friend whether the new dog wants to or not. I feel she would be most happy with someone that does have another dog that she can be with. She sleeps by herself and with other dogs. She alert barks when someone comes to the house, but as with any alert barking, she stops immediately. She loves anything soft to sleep on. Tooka has played with a lot of children too and completely enjoys that. She is vocal, too. This means she truly tries to have a conversation with you and her voice goes up and down when you talk. I have kept her on a schedule here and even when I am unable to do so, she goes with the flow. She is required to sit for a few minutes before she gets food and does so without hesitation. She eats at a steady pass, not gobbling nor slow. She, is like most dogs, and would prefer to stay filthy than to get a bath. Tooka is definitely a very loving dog that may squat if a voice is raised. She doesn't hide, but shows immediate respect.
