Tonka's Story...
What a big lug Tonka is. Sweet and affectionate, young and silly, this boy is amazing. It's hard to believe he ended up in a shelter, but alas, that is where we found him as a stray.

Tonka is right around 1 year old and at least 70 pounds. He is young and finds it hard to contain his joy of life sometimes, forgetting that it's not ok to pull on a leash. He will need a strong family just based on his size, and the family should probably not have very small children for that same fact.

Tonka took right to a crate in his foster home. He enjoys being around other large dogs, but we have not tried him with smaller dogs or cats yet. If you have either and would like to meet Tonka, please let us know so we can test him with them.

If you are interest ed in meeting Tonka and possibly adopting him, please email us for an application at tmabrescue@gmail.com.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Tonka, a Oakley Leonberger dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Leonberger for sale in Oakley, or seeking a Leonberger dog from a breeder in Oakley.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Oakley already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Oakley breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Leonberger breeders who help with Leonberger rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Oakley paves the way for another one to be saved.
