Achmed-Prison Dog's Story...
Meet Achmed! He's a docile dog looking for a new home. Achmed is a purebred 3 year old Shar Pei. This poor boy was surrendered to the shelter because there were too many pets in his family. His former owner didn't say much about him. Achmed is a quiet gentle boy.

Achmed has been selected to be one of our Prison Dogs. He left for training at the end of March. Achmed will spend 8-12 weeks being trained in obedience, basic commands, manners and leash walking at the Grafton Correctional Institution. Upon his return he will be skilled in all the areas mentioned. Prison Dogs return to the shelter on an individual basis.

If you are interested in adopting Achmed, adoption applications are now being accepted. They can be downloaded at but must be hand delivered to Friendship. If you have any questions please call the shelter at 440-322-4321. A limited amount of adoption apps are taken on each Prison Dog.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Achmed-Prison Dog, a Elyria Shar Pei dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shar Pei for sale in Elyria, or seeking a Shar Pei dog from a breeder in Elyria.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Elyria already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Elyria breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shar Pei breeders who help with Shar Pei rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Elyria paves the way for another one to be saved.
