Here's what the humans have to say about me:
DOB June 1, 2012. Welcome to Toronto Cat Rescue Rio!! We promise that you will be protected, loved and safe for the rest of your life.
This beautiful girl was found wandering alone in the streets of Brantford. Although many people tried to help her this desperate kitty remained very fearful. Despite how hungry she was she somehow managed to avoid the traps that were set to help her. Poor Rio spent this brutally cold winter outside fending for herself by finding cover underneath porches and parked cars. Her meals came from the neighborhood trash cans. Watching the plight of this little one was just so heartbreaking.
Her foster mom shares: "It was a beautiful sunny morning when I pulled back into my driveway and I noticed that my cat Murphy (once a TCR foster kitty) had somehow gotten outside. I panicked and ran to the porch to get him back inside quickly when I noticed he was cleaning something, I immediately thought he caught a bird or rodent but realized he was comforting the tiniest, dirtiest little calico baby. The kitten had become so desperate. Her little ears, nose and pads of her feet had suffered serious frostbite, she was so thin and frail. It seemed that she had no choice to but to trust Murphy. In my hand was a bag of donuts so I emptied one out onto the porch as a peace offering. Rio laying very still and incredibly weak started eating the donut. Her eyes looked hopeful as she was looking for more food. Rio was ready to start her new beginning. I scooped this baby up, wrapped her in a warm towel and feed her soft canned cat food from a spoon. Surprisingly this pretty girl was gentle, grateful and so loving. She purred from the moment I picked her up and she has never stopped. She purred through her bath, her vet visit, her vaccination and the car ride."
Rio is such an innocent soul. She has already forgotten those terrible months alone and is very excited to be loved. She adores her foster family, her cuddle times and of course good conversation. Rio likes to talk and has the cutest little meow. She spends her days following her foster mom around the house helping to do the daily chores. She loves watching hockey with her foster dad... Rio is very much a Leafs fan!! Rio pretty much ignores all of the other animals in her foster home (dogs and cats alike). She is an independent gal who much prefers human companionship. She loves her scratching post and uses her little pan with perfection. She loves her dry food but looks forward to her canned food as well. Temptation treats are a favorite for sure. Rio spends her days resting comfortably on the back of the sofa looking out the window safely watching the world go by. Rio is now healthy, pretty and even the perfect weight. Rio is a little princess, deserving of a family that will love her unconditionally and forever. Rio will do fine in a home with other easy going pets but she will also do well as the "one and only". Rio will be a good fit in and adult home or a home with older respectful children.
