Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Lucy… Lucy is a 2 years (young) spayed female, caramel Pit Bull mix. She is petite at about 40 pounds.
Lucy was found in Houston’s 5th Ward. She was skin and bones walking around with a prolapsed uterus and her constant distemper leg tick. She has been in loving care ever since that day and has regained her strength and spirit. Lucy is a distemper survivor, which has afflicted since her puppy days, causing her back legs to “tick” constantly. This will never go away, but Lucy has no idea she even has this handicap and we are not going to tell her!! She can run with the best of them, pull herself up on the couch and she even plays ball! She is putting on healthy weight and her back legs are getting stronger and less atrophied every day.
Lucy is an alpha female. She gets along well with males but has a more difficult time sharing space with another female. Lucy is not violent, but likes to assert her female presence. Cats are not of interest to Lucy although she can be curious at times, so a home with cats would be no problem for Lucy. Lucy is working on socializing with the other dog in the home, a male Labrador, but she can sometimes be a little awkward and press his buttons as she always wants to kiss and jump to him. With time, Lucy will understand doggie etiquette a little better. Lucy is a wonderful listener and even goes into her kennel when asked. She’s a smart girl.
Lucy is loyal and loving. She would be a wonderful companion to anyone who will let her into their heart. She has a lot of spirit and lives life without letting her anything bring her down. She always greets you with a smile and shows gratitude for finally being able to have comfort and love. She will be a very loyal companion for the lucky person who adopts her.
This very special girl is ready for her forever home. Miss Lucy did not have a good life living on the streets so we were very fortunate to find her when we did. We would love for Lucy to be the spokesdog for Unity For a Solution and Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward and possibly take her with us to functions. If you would like to long term foster or adopt her we would love it if you would allow us to do that. She certainly is a good example of one of our street dogs having their life turned around by the kindness of others. If you are interested in adopting or fostering her please let us know and go ahead and fill out an adoption or foster application on our website forgottendogs.org. Lucy is currently with a foster but it was a short term situation to get her through her post surgery recovery. She truly is ready for a more permanent situation. We would love for someone to be a part of this girl’s life and show her the love she had never known on the street.
