Smudge's Story...
Smudge is a four month old Black and White DSH boy. He was originally picked up as a stray, starving and sickly with no zest for life. After receiving some much needed TLC from our staff Smudge is ready to join his new family. He is relatively healthy now, but upon a recent medical evaluation it was determined that Smudge has FeLV (Feline Leukemia). There is no cure for the disease and the longevity of these cats is normal depending on their care. He may also require more medical check-ups in the future and will need an attentive owner to keep an eye on his health. Overall he is a typical, active kitten but we urge all potential adopters to do as much research as possible on FeLV before inquiring. Smudge is very charismatic, loves to play and swat his toys. He would do wonderful in a home with a playmate and can be placed with dogs without any risk as it is only a feline disease (but can only be placed with other FeLV postive cats).

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Smudge, a Ft. Pierce Domestic Shorthair kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Ft. Pierce, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair kitten from a breeder in Ft. Pierce.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Ft. Pierce already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Ft. Pierce breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Ft. Pierce paves the way for another one to be saved.
