Martina's Story...
Miss Martina was found trotting down a rural country road in late January. Her rescuer feels like she was someone's hunting Beagle who either got lost from the pack or was dumped off by her previous owner. We doubt Martina had ever been indoors or experienced the finer things in life before being rescued. She now thinks soft dog beds, toys and treats are amazing. Martina is excellent with other dogs and seems to really enjoy their company. She can be a bit shy in new situations and loud noises make her jumpy but her foster mom has been working through these things and is seeing great improvement. Martina is good on leash and in the car and has caught on quickly to potty training. She is a pro at the doggie door too! She is crate trained but is trustworthy when left alone indoors uncrated. Martina is quiet and gentle and is an excellent cuddle buddy. She doesn't like being held but loves to lay right next her people on the couch or bed. She does have a bit of Beagle mischief though and has been found on top of various tables on several occassions. Her foster dad's answer to this is that 'Beagles love to be up high...Snoopy was always on top of his dog house after all'. Because she is a hound with a strong nose and a tendency to get on a trail and not pay attention to her surroundings, Martina needs to be walked on leash or be let out to potty and play in a secure yard. She is not a digger and happily comes when called...we just don't want her to get into trouble and wander off if she gets on a irresistible scent trail. Martina is approximately 4 years old and fully grown at 25#. We believe she is a purebred Beagle. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. She did test positive for heartworm upon being rescued but is breezing through treatment and should be heartworm free and ready to transport home in May. Hurry and apply for this great girl today.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Martina, a Richmond Beagle dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Beagle for sale in Richmond, or seeking a Beagle dog from a breeder in Richmond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Richmond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Richmond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Beagle breeders who help with Beagle rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Richmond paves the way for another one to be saved.
