My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I might be older but I really just wanted a home and someone to love me. Now, I am no longer available for adoption. Due to the Glaucoma issues I now have with my eyes, I will live out my remaining years here in rescue. I will be loved and well taken care of in a great foster home with my foster Mom who has gone the extra mile to care for me and gives me happiness. If you would like to donate to help with my care, I would appreciate it very much!

My name is Amos and I am a really sweet, cockapoo boy, about 12. I came to rescue from a NC shelter that tried to pass me off as a cocker spaniel and they never mentioned that I had a full blown cataract in one eye and my other eye was also bad. When these nice CCR folks picked me up at the shelter, they saved me from being faced with a gas death because of my age and eye condition, but I obviously wasn't the youngster they were told about. The staff workers told these rescue folks that my owners brought me in, saying that they were in the process of moving and just couldn't keep me anymore. They told the workers that I was 3 to 5 years old, but you could tell by looking at me, that I am closer to being at least 8 to 9, and the CCR vet said the same thing on my initial visit coming into rescue. They didn't learn of my real age of 12, until I was taken in for my eye consultation.

I am heartworm negative, updated on shots, I am now neutered and I had a dental done too. These nice folks decided that I would need to see the eye specialist to see if anything could be done to help my eyesight. I have now been here at this rescue for awhile and now I have full blown cataracts in both eyes. But, to give me a chance, they took me for my eye visit, to find out if anything could be done for me to possibly see in my one eye and CCR had to raise the funds. The specialist told these rescue folks that I am not 8 years old, but more like 12 years old, and that I am not a candidate for eye surgery, as I have a lot of retinal degeneration. Now, my best option as a senior boy of 12 is for these rescue folks to find me a loving home where I can be well taken care of and very loved for however long, as a blind dog. To be a partial seeing dog is bad enough, but I was also having a hard time adjusting and needed lots T ofLC, patience and understanding to help me continue to live my life.

Amos was dumped off at a shelter to be faced with a gas death as he had a full blown cataract and another one showing that was not quite as advanced in the other eye too. We really wanted to help this special boy and we were optimistic to find out more about the options available to get a surgery done to help him to see in his eye that wasn't quite as bad as the other. Unfortunately, this is no longer an option and we also found out that he is quite a bit older than we thought. He deserved his 2nd chance after being left off at a shelter from someone who knew him well and then tried to pass him off as a younger dog because they claimed they couldn't keep him. They knew and just didn't care that it would not be possible for him to ever find a home at the shelter, due to his eyes being so bad. He deserves to be loved just like anyone else!

If you would like to donate to help with this sweet boy's care or any of the dogs here at the rescue, we would greatly appreciate your kindness and thank you for caring! CCR, P.O. Box 1050, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
