My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Freckles and I just came into foster care with a family who’s never had a basset before. (Can you believe it??) I’ve had my paws full trying to teach them about my breed and of course, moi in particular! If I do say so myself I’m adjusting really well after only a few days in my new digs with 2 humans, 2 dogs and a cat. I’ve never lived with a cat before so my foster mom is teaching me to be courteous and polite, which wasn’t my first inclination, I’ll tell you that! The cat reminds me so much of the old “rabbit in the field” dream that all us bassets have! But, I’m workin’ on it…
Enough about the cat, let’s get back to me! I’m a very pretty tri-color 5 year old girl who weighs in at a svelte 54 pounds. I am a good car rider, good leash walker and a reliable doggie-door user. Once I plop down in my doggie bed at night I sleep quietly right through until morning (well, okay, maybe the occasional snore and moan). I’m not at all a barker but I get a little nervous around new dogs and don’t like anyone getting in my personal space until I’m ready. If another dog gets too close too quick, I’ll let out a big howl so they know to back off! But after awhile we become the best of friends, and I’m now doing the Basset 500 in the yard with my foster brother and sister!!

I’d do best in a family without small children or too much activity, because I can get skittish, although that’ll get better as I get the hang of a new routine. Generally I’m a calm and very affectionate kinda gal with loads of personality! It’d be great if I had a home where someone was home a lot, and/or there was another not too rambunctious dog for company. And, maybe a cat, but I’ll update you later on that!

My foster mom says I’m a real sweetie. Won’t you please come and meet me? If you give me a chance, I’ll definitely charm you with my Bette Davis eyes and be a loving companion forever!
