Here's what the humans have to say about me:
I was sitting at the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services shelter and I was just a few hours away from euthanization when I caught the eye of CARE (Cressie Animal Refuge and Enrichment). They rescued me, but couldn’t find a foster or adopter, so they sent me to boarding.
While I was in boarding at a Vet Clinic, I was so anxious and CARE couldn’t get a good idea on my temperament. Imagine, all you want to do is run, but you have been stuck in a cage for over 3 weeks….you would be acting a little weird too. So Miss Peggy (founder of CARE) sent her hubby over to pick me up and take me to their house to see how I fit in with the home life. Good news! I am AWESOME! I got along well with people and was fine with other dogs. I even saw horses and rode in a Golf cart!
I am looking for a new family with a large yard or someone who would be willing to take me on daily runs or walks, since I need a lot of exercise of my body and mind to stay happy! CARE does believe I was mistreated by my previous owner and probably chained up most of my life, so they are looking for a new family who knows what a wonderful breed the German Shepherd Dog is and would be willing to give me a loving home with a strong leader to follow and plenty of exercise. I need training and still pull on the leash, they are working on this with me, I am very strong, and so you would need to know how to handle me!
My original age was listed as 2 years old, but Miss Peggy looked at my teeth and she thinks maybe 3-4 years old. I weigh 60 lbs when they saved me, but I am underweight and will likely be an 80lb dog. Nothing a few extra treats can’t fix! I am not too fond of cats, but they are slowly exposing me to try and get me better with the little fellas. I am neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Please call Peggy at 210-313-3600 or email her at pbrink@caretx.org if you can foster or adopt me! CARE is a San Antonio, Texas, based organization.
