Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Chico" is a large, 2-yo (born March 8, 2011) neutered male GSD who is very friendly and energetic. Chico is great with people, and has been raised w/ middle-aged children. His temperament suggests that he'd be fine with very young children, but his size and energy level might be too much for them. Chico is reactive towards other dogs when on leash, but he is fine when off-leash; he is now living at GSRSV's facility and gets along great w/ the other dogs there. He even played w/ a little Pomeranian that got into his yard when he was younger, though recently he showed that he's too intense for such a small dog. Chico does NOT get along w/ cats. Chico weighs about 90 lbs.
Chico has received formal obedience training and is responsive to commands, though he could definitely use a refresher course. His former owners kept him outside primarily, but they did bring him inside on occasion and he is completely housetrained. When left outside alone, he would occasionally dig or chew on objects left in the back yard. Chico is good on leash (except, as noted, when he sees other dogs) and used to regularly run besides a bicycle ridden by the 12-yr old boy in his former home.
Chico came from a working line of GSDs and it shows in his energy level. Chico would do best in a home with a very active family or individual, and has the potential for search & rescue work or other type of work.
Chico's owners purchased him from a breeder at about 4 months of age, primarily to be a companion for their kids. However, the children did not spent enough time with Chico to provide him with the stimulation he needed, so his owners felt he would do better in a home where the people will pay more attention to him. Consequently, they brought him to GSRSV's facility where they are boarding him while I seek a permanent home for him.
