Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET MELA. Super sweet little dachshund-chihuahua mix. Mela is under a year old, in very good health. Her teeth are clean and in good shape. She has been spayed, had her vaccinations, and rabies shot. We have the vaccinations paperwork, and spay/rabies certificate. She is leash trained and LOVES to walk. She is good in the car after the initial excitement period. She has lapses in potty training and needs more work. She is great with other dogs, likes cats but tends to bark at them and chase as her way of playing. She does bark a bit in the yard but is trainable. She is shy at first and gets a bit nippy when she feels cornered. She doesn't bite though. She does better with women at first, but does warm up quickly. She adores being kissed on the sides of her face and will present her checks for kisses and will sit there and just melt with her kisses, very darling!!!!
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same sex in a home and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer no smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues. All our dogs are fully vetted, including all shots, wormer & flea protection, nails trimmed, the works. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $350, no exceptions as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training. Can you give her a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will be in touch with you within 48 hours so please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
