My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet the most amazing hound ever- young Mr. Bentley! Bentley arrived in Washington a few weeks ago and is in foster care in Federal Way. Bentley is a Blue tick Coonhound mixed with Labrador Retriever- approximately a year old. His foster mom thinks more like 8 months as he is still a pup in many ways! He is not a big guy, weighing only 38 lbs. He is as tall as he will get, but could add a few lbs to his slight statue. Bentley is super happy to be alive and living in a place where he is safe and experiencing all the fun stuff the northwest has to offer. He loves his daily walks, trips to the beach, camping and dog parks! He is a very outgoing guy and quite social. Bentley gets along very well with other dogs (he does love WA dog parks, a new experience for him!) He has not been around a lot of kitties, but did ignore his Georgia foster’s cats and those in the vet office. He has been around children of all ages and only his excitement has to be managed as he still puppy-“jumpy”. Bentley will benefit greatly from basic obedience class, a good bonding experience for all of you. Bentley is good on the leash and loves being out and about. He is quiet and listens well and foster mom is working on perfecting his basic skills. He knows sit, stay, lay down and is working on fetch. Bentley is very food motivated (duh!) and a very quick learner. His needs are met with a bone or a chew toy! Bentley has a lot of energy, so a daily walk or run are essential for him and an active family would be great. He is crate trained and house trained and rides very well in the car. Bentley has traveled all the way across the country to find his forever home after being rescued out of a high kill Georgia shelter. He is a very social guy, who would love a nice yard and another playmate, but is would do fine with a smaller space as long as he had plenty of exercise and playtime. He has no food or toy aggression and is super affectionate. Bentley loves his “people time” and enjoys his belly and ear rubs. Bentley is on medication for an early case of heartworms. His “slow treatment” plan consists of 6 months of pill form medication provided by the rescue. Heartworms are another unfortunate condition in the south resulting from “crappy first owners” who did not give him preventative medication. It does not affect him and there are no outward signs and he is not contagious to your other pets. It is treatable and he will lead a happy, normal, long life during and after his treatment is over. Bentley has been neutered, micro-chipped and totally vaccinated. He is a most unusual and unique dog to the northwest. In the south he would never be adopted as a “common dog” but here in Washington we know and love hounds for being great family dogs who will be loyal as the day is long and your best friend for life! Please don’t let his temporary heartworm condition keep you from considering wonderfully friendly, adorable and super sweet- BENTLEY! You are bound to fall in love with this coolest of southern dudes!
