Wonderful Miss Winnie would love to find a permanent home of her very own! She has been with her foster family for almost three years now. People may hesitate to adopt Winnie because she is blind (she lost her sight to glaucoma) but Winnie would like everyone to know that she "sees" the world just fine – it’s primarily a world of smells and sounds and touch. Winnie is quite a happy girl with her Aussie wiggles and joyous grins.

Winnie is approximately 8 years old and she weighs in at about 50 pounds. She has a soft, wavy blue Merle coat that she LOVES to have brushed. Winnie adores being touched and she is a master snuggler! Winnie does not ask for much in terms of exercise, she is a lower energy Aussie but please don’t take this to mean that Winnie doesn’t enjoy a good romp in the fields, swim in the lake or a hike in the woods – Winnie loves these things very much!

Winnie’s ideal home is a quiet home with a traditionally fenced yard. Winnie would love a home where someone is home most of the time, and Winnie would love to be the center of attention; cats are fine by Winnie but another dog in the home could be a challenge. This is not to say that she cannot adapt, Winnie’s foster mom works full time and Winnie lives with another female Aussie. It took many months for Winnie to become comfortable sharing her space with another dog, and it took time for the resident Aussie to adapt to living with Winnie. Winnie does need some extra time and understanding in order to adapt to changes in her life. What she’ll give you in return for your patience is priceless – lots of happy wiggly love and Winnie smiles!

Winnie is a typical Aussie with herding and guarding instincts. For this reason Winnie requires a slow introduction to visitors to the home and she tends to bark to warn you of new sounds in the environment, although she quiets quickly if her person tells her that all is well. And for all of Winnie’s strengths she will never be a “dog park dog” – all of that meeting & socializing with new people and new dogs overwhelms her.

Winnie’s needs are simple – a little daily exercise and then time spent playing with her toys and hanging out with her people. Winnie is extremely food motivated and she loves sitting for treats or working to liberate something tasty from a puzzle toy. For Winnie this is really all the challenge she needs in a day!
