My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 7/23/13!!!

Well, HELLO world!! Lulu is my name and charming is my game! I am in love with life and everyone I come in contact with! I love kids, big people, and I love other dogs too! When people see me, they smile and when I see people, I smile too! I am about 3 years old and I am a Golden mixed with pure cuteness! I weigh about 38 pounds and have the softest fur imaginable! I have heard folks say I am gorgeous but I am not just another pretty face. I am a real companion dog - deeply affectionate and extremely loving. True to my Golden roots, I have a glowing temperament and disposition.

I was found with my litter of puppies by the kindest man who made sure that we were cared for. Another rescue found homes for my puppies and now SGRR is helping me find a family for me to love. Before I came to Sunshine, I stayed overnight with a family who drove me to the rescue group. They had two adorable kids who I loved playing with and I hope to have human kids of my own to play with. I have been going through heartworm treatment because my former owner didn’t care enough about me to give me preventatives. But I am feeling good now and nearly ready to go to my forever home. I am staying with a great foster family in the south who will help me polish up on my house manners. This is what my foster mommy said about me, “Lulu has good house manners and has not had accidents in the house. She eats small amounts at a time. I feed her three times a day - the middle meal is the remainder of her breakfast. She likes to sleep in my master bedroom bath. She sleeps out of the crate but I do crate her during the day when I have to go out to keep her calm during her heartworm treatment. She needs help going into the crate but once she is in it, she is fine. Lulu is content in the yard and has not tried to jump or climb the fence. Lulu gets along well with our 2 resident dogs but does not pack up with them. I encourage her to get up on my lap and cuddle – she is getting the hang of it and likes to give some kisses. Lulu even rides nicely in the car but wants to sit up front and help drive. All in all, she is a good, sweet girl!

Well, don’t I sound dreamy!?! I am up-to-date on my vaccinations and spayed. All I need now is a forever home and a forever family to love, love, love!! But don’t delay – a pretty gal like me can’t be kept waiting!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
