Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Kichiro, (kee-chee-dO), which is a Japanese male name meaning "lucky son" is a 1 year old pure bred Red male Shiba Inu that came to us from a shelter in Nebraska. Kichiro and his father, Yoshi, escaped from their owner's yard and during their escapade they attacked and killed some chickens on a neighboring property. The dogs were seized by Animal Control and the owner could have paid to get them out but didn't have the funds. Unfortunately killing the chickens labelled the dogs as "dangerous" and therefore if not released back to the owner they faced euthanasia as they could not be adopted out to anyone in the state. Luckily for these two boys, a worker (or possibly volunteer, not sure which) of the shelter was a follower of our rescue and contacted us. She was able to convince Animal Control to transfer the dogs to our rescue.
So far Kichi is sweet and affectionate with people but is VERY energetic! He likes children but jumps all over them and scratched and knocked over the Director's 3 1/3 year old so probably no children under 10 until he matures and has more manners. He is good with other dogs his size or larger and LOVES to play! Just a warning that the play may contain some humping--he gets so excited he doesn't know what to do with himself. We have not yet introduced him to smaller dogs. He is NOT good with cats and should not be trusted around small animals--HE WILL GO AFTER THEM AND PROBABLY KILL THEM!
Kichiro is working on crate training and is also potty trained. He will shiba scream in his crate at first but then quiets down. Hehas been in the Director's backyard which has short chain link and seems to do fine but the yard is also very large and he spends most of his time running all over the place so if the yard isn't large or he doesn't have another dog to run around with he may try to jump or climb short chain link. We also never recommend leaving a dog outside if no one is home. Another option is taller chain link or privacy wood fencing. We do not feel he would yet be a good option for an apartment due to his vocalizations.
Kichiro's adoption fee is $350.00. He is neutered, vaccinated for distemper, bordatella, and rabies, is microchipped in the rescue's name and will come with a 6 week professional training class.
