My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Harley: 10 year old neutered male Lab 80 lbs

Sadly Harley needs to make another change. We adopted Harley out last year and now the owner had to go back to work and Harley is left alone all day and they feel it is not fair to him. Their schedules are very busy and Harley is not getting the attention and exercise he deserves.

This is what they have to say about Harley:

Harley is a great dog. He is extremely loving and loyal! He bonded with us immediately and never wants to leave our sides. Harley would be great with another dog in the home and great with someone who is around during the day. We have worked with Harley on his leash manners and he is good but he is a strong dog to walk. You can take Harley out for a walk and he will be a dog that will sleep at your feet the rest of the day. He is fine with kids but should be with kids that will respect an older dog.

Harley is very healthy and has no healthy issues. Is updated on his shots, takes heartworm medication, neutered and is microchipped.

He is located in Palo Alto.

This is his listing with Lab Rescue last June:

What a love bug! This boy could not be sweeter. Lab Rescue found Harley when his vet contacted us as his owner couldn't keep him. The owner took him to the Vet to have put down as he was not able to protect himself any longer from the other dogs in the home. The Vet contacted Lab Rescue as they refused to put Harley down as he had more life to live and he was a wonderful boy! We met him and saw how sweet he was and knew we could find him a home where he'd get the love and attention he deserved.

We currently have Harley in a foster home and this is what the foster has to say about Harley:

Harley needs an owner that can help him with his leash manners and help him with sitting at the door and not trying to run out the door. We are working with him on this and are using a correction collar and feel with a few more weeks of training he will have better leash manners and better manners overall. He loves to be out and about and gets very excited. When he is in the home he does have an off switch and will lay calmly or sleep quietly inside the house. He has a great temperament with other dogs. He is very affectionate and lives for tummy rubs. The foster has not had any problems grooming him or giving him any medication. Harley was mostly an "outside" dog--sleeping outside at night with another dog. Lab Rescue is looking for a home where he will be part of the family and be an "inside" dog, especially at night. Harley needs to lose a few pounds (like 10) but healthy food and regular exercise, easy at first, will help him shed the weight. Harley is up to date on his shots. heartworm tested, microchipped and we had a few fatty lumps tested and they came back negative. He rides well in the car and takes treats gently. Harley will benefit from regular walks but won't need (and shouldn't get) much running. He doesn't get along so well with cats so a non-cat household is recommended. Harley does know sit and down and is eager to please so should learn quickly. He sleeps on a dog bed at night and is fine with the fosters two other male dogs. Harley should be fine with dog-savvy children and Lab Rescue would like a home where someone is around at least part of the day given that he's spent the first part of his life in the back yard. Harley is located in San Francisco.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
