Mya's Story...
Miss Mya is a petite Labrador mix who found herself at a high kill shelter in Louisiana with her puppy Missy (who has already been adopted through Bonnie Blue Rescue). Mya and Missy were black Lab mixes in a shelter full of black Lab mixes and were scheduled for euthanasia on their 8th day at the pound. Thankfully they were instead saved by BBR friends PAWS of NE LA and are now looking for loving homes up north. Mya is approximately 2 years old and 40#. She is housetrained and cratetrained and walks like a dream on leash. She is fostered in a busy household with kids and other dogs. Her foster mom reports that, “Mya is a ham! She can entertain herself by throwing a toy in the air then running up to it like she can not imagine where it came from. Mya is a fan of playing chase and tug of war with the other dogs. She’s also quite content to curl up in the chair with you & sit quietly while you read or type emails. Crate time is not her favorite time, but she does very well once in the kennel. No barking or whining. Mya will flop over for a belly rub in a heartbeat. She fits in well with the rest of my pack. Mya has a special bond with my 14 year old Shepherd who isn’t normally a fan of the fosters but Mya will come up & gently give him kisses on his gray muzzle and he loves her!”

Mya is spayed, microchipped and current on all vaccinations. Upon being rescued she did test positive for heartworm but will be done with treatment and heartworm free in late July. We hope to have a family lined up for her before that so she can transport as soon as the vet gives her the all clear. Mya is more than ready to move to her forever family and is very excited about what her future has in store!! Hurry and apply for this special girl today.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Mya, a Richmond Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Richmond, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Richmond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Richmond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Richmond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Richmond paves the way for another one to be saved.
