Clara is a huge sweetheart in a stout little package. Weighing a solid 45 pounds, she appears to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. Around 10 months old, Clara is a happy wiggle-butt but relatively mellow for a young dog. She is house trained, crate trained and is being taught basic obedience such as learning not to pull on a leash. Clara is also discovering how to be a dog - understanding that there are toys to enjoy other than socks and experiencing the pleasure of playing with her fellow four-legged friends. Currently fostered with two big dogs (a male and a female), one little pup and a cat, Clara gets along with all of her companions. She is very loving and hopes to find a family to love her in return.
We first saw Clara at the Baldwin Park Shelter in Los Angeles with no hair, her body covered in bloody scabs. Staff were unsure what was causing the condition, but a visit to veterinarian Dr. Kumar saw her diagnosed with a severe case of mange. Even though she was not feeling 100%, Clara remained full of puppy antics - always giving tons of kisses and showing off how wiggly her body is when playing around. After weeks of treatment that included dips and antibiotics to address her mange, Clara's hair has grown thick again and is a beautiful brindle color.
