Meet Sumo. He has a sad story to share. Sumo traveled all the way from Oregon before coming to Central Coast Pug Rescue. Sumo lived in a very remote area in Oregon with his mom and pug sister. Sumo’s mom became suddenly very ill and passed away at home with her pugs by her side. A week went by before authorities made the grim discovery. Sumo’s pug sister did not survive the week long ordeal without food, water and the loving care of their mom. Sumo was very emaciated and distraught. Family was called from California and arrangements were made for Sumo to make the journey to California and for his surrender. Sumo is having a very tough time transitioning from the trauma and does not understand who these strangers are and new places in his life. Our first obligation is the our pug’s well being and we are doing everything we can to help him feel as comfortable as possible. We often think, what makes the pug breed so endearing is their human-like qualities and emotions. It is equally hard to watch pug suffer from confusion and anxiety just like an abandoned child. We are helping him to understand he is safe and loved. Some pugs take much longer than others are we are in no hurry to give him the time he needs. What we do know about Sumo, is that he is a big ol’ softy, and we mean a big boned boy! weighing in at around 35 lbs. Check back for updates and more photos soon
