My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Josie has the sweetest disposition. She is very gentle and goes to anyone for pets and kisses. Her tail is constantly wagging. She doesn't require much to be happy, just a brisk walk and then a warm bed to crash on afterwords (with plenty of belly rubs and hugs) and she is as content as can be. She is a very quick learner and really just wants someone to give her love and leadership and she will be a %100 devoted to you. Josie is approximately 3 - 4 years old and weighs 37 lbs.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

While Josie is very social with all adults, we haven't seen her with children yet. My guess is that she would do well with older children but might be too nervous/shy for small children. She is a lovely dog but does need some confidence building. She is very shy and submissive to everyone. She is quick to drop to the ground belly up but warms up quickly to everyone so far.

She is very uninterested in cats and could easily live with one. She does well with our dog but they don't play together, they just lay quietly in each others presence (our dog is very calm and quiet). She has cowered when walking past our neighbors dogs that bark. I think she would be happiest living as the only dog or in a home with another dog that has a quiet/calm demeanor (ie a senior dog). She enjoys going on walks (her endurance isn't great though), chewing on raw hides and sleeping.

She is wonderful in the house, hasn't jumped on the couch or bed once, and hasn't stolen food (and doesn't beg while we are eating). She is very quiet, and rarely barks. She seems to understand 'come', but I wouldn't assume that she is reliable off leash. I don't believe that she understands other commands. She does respond to a 'shhh' if you want to correct her though. She is fully house trained.

Josie spent her initial night with us in the crate, she whined for a little while and then eventually went to sleep. She now sleeps on a dog bed in our bed room since she had not had a single accident in the house nor has she shown any destructive tendencies, she sleeps soundly all night with no incidences. She does try to bolt out the door. We have been working on door manners (we enter/exit before we allow her to follow us) and she is quickly understanding and respecting the new rules. Today was her first car ride. We had to pick her up and load her in on our way to the hiking trail, but when we were getting into the car to head home she volunteered to jump in on her own. She seemed a bit stressed on the ride, but I think she will quickly get used to driving once she starts to associate it with fun walks on the trail and such :)

I think Josie is an awesome dog....seriously... she is great. She is sweet and takes direction so well, and she is already so well mannered. Because Josie is shy and because of how I have seen her interacting with our dog Coal I am inclined to say that she would be best with a 'gentle' family. She is not a high energy dog so I don't think she would enjoy living with young playful dogs or small children. She is the kind of dog that wants a family that will balance exercise and leisure, she enjoys her walks but also really enjoys laying by your feet while you watch a movie.

If you think Josie would be a good companion for your situation, please submit an application for consideration.
