My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maia is the most loveable dog an owner would want to have. She is so playful and always ready to play fetch. She is eager to please you, and very quick to learn. She loves to chase everything from ants, moths, and every dogs favourite, squirrels. Mostly she loves attention from anyone. She is respectful and very quiet, never even barking! Maia is a young girl approximately 10 months old and weighs 24 lbs.

Everyone loves Corgis; with their short and stout legs and elongated bodies, what’s not to love? Not to mention they have the sweetest disposition and are extremely loyal to their family.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Maia is a happy, quiet and content girl. She loves affection from anyone. She is still very much a puppy and is currently learning boundaries, how to behave in a home, and some commands. She is well on her way to being house trained and we are currently working on her crate training. She is praise motivated making her easy to train. It will just take some time, as with any puppy, and whoever adopts her must be willing to continue her education as she will be a most wonderful companion given a little time and patience. She absolutely loves to cuddle!! She is great playing fetch and she loves to sleep!

She has a lot of puppy energy and would need someone that is willing to take her for a good walk each day and a backyard to run and play in would be ideal. In the home she is very quiet and I don't believe I have ever heard her bark even when the other dog is barking. She has a bit of issue when we go out and leave her and we are currently working on her crate training as she will get into things if left alone in the home. She doesn't chew anything she shouldn't but she can get onto things and can jump really high regardless of those short little legs. She is very curious of everything and it is a lot of fun watching her discover the world around her.

Although she loves everyone, I would currently be worried of her in a home with small children as she is sometimes a like a "bull in a china shop" and could potentially knock a child down the stairs. With older children she would be a playful and entertaining companion.

Maia is a really a wonderful pup but she is a pup and will need her new family to continue with her training. Ideally she should be taken to obedience school or worked with by someone that has experience training young dogs. It would be best if someone was home during the day so they can ensure she gets out when she needs to go to potty. We haven't had any accidents but we take her out frequently when we are home, praising her when she goes outside and then we crate her while we are away during the day. She does make a fuss when we first put her in the crate and we found that a hard shell carrier is better than a wire crate that she can try to get out of.

Maina definitely needs an active environment as she really calms down after walks and playing fetch. She is the most loveable sweet dog, loves to cuddle. She loves to sleep with you and makes herself right at home in the bed and even gets herself under the sheets. She cannot wait until you wake up, and as soon as she realizes your awake she's at your side snuggling right in. While watching tv or reading, she uses your body as a human pillow often sleeping on her back with legs in the air! I think her best feature is that you can see that she wants to please you. Despite not knowing any basic commands she understands warning calls and stops the bad behaviour she's doing immediately. She listens really well, and is very smart. She will be a very loyal companion. I recommend a more mature family (with older children just because of her strong tendencies). She does get jealous when you give attention to other animals, if you are petting another dog she will go between the two of you and block the other dog to prevent any more affection. Similarly if another dog is playing with a toy she all of a sudden wants it etc. This is however all actions of a puppy and with further training and consistency, Maia will be an exceptional member of any family.

If you think Maia would be a good fit for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
