My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maggie is about 4. She was dumped in a rural junk yard. She is shy but loving. She "smiles". She is a fast learner and an intelligent dog. She is fine with cats and relaxed dogs. No small hyper dogs for her. She is getting along fine with her two Pyr foster dogs. She is shown touching noses with Bear in this photo. She is a gentle dog. Quiet and just wants to be with you. She walks gently on a leash and would be good in a home with small children. She is NOT food aggressive in any way towards people. She waits for you to put the treat on the floor before taking it. She waits until the cats are finished before licking their dishes. She waits her turn to go out in the morning.

Maggie is being treated for heartworm and will be available after October 1st. She is a trooper through all of this. We will spay her after the heartworm treatment is done.

NEPR does NOT adopt out dogs that we know are sick.

The beauty of a Great Pyrenees can take your breath away, but they are unique dogs which require dedicated owners who have thoroughly researched the traits of the breed. Feel free to visit our website at www.nepyresq.org for information to start your journey! Northeast Pyrenees Rescue only sponsors dogs from the Northeast including New Jersey for placement in homes in our region. If you are interested in meeting this pyrenees, please complete our application at http://www.nepyresq.org/page/adoption-application-36.html Please include any questions in the comments field of the application. Keep in mind that we are a volunteer organization and encourage serious inquiries only. Great Pyrenees are known for their barking as they were bred to be Livestock Guardians. HOWEVER, a dog not raised around farm animals does not automatically become an Livestock Guardian. They are trained from birth to do that job. If you need a working dog you should contact a reputable breeder for a trained dog. Find breeders at Great Pyrenees Club of America www.gpcaonline.org
