Here's what the humans have to say about me:
You would expect that a collie as cute, happy and fun loving as Waylon would also be brimming over with self confidence - but you would be wrong. Though Waylon is a typical young collie in most ways, he does have some quirky fears that his new, forever family will need to be aware of and work on with patience and understanding. His greatest fear is getting into a car. His foster mom says that he has pulled out of his collar and even tried to hurt himself rather than get into a vehicle. Oddly enough, once he is inside, he rides pretty well, but getting there is a monumental challenge. The vet has prescribed medication that helps to reduce his auto-anxiety, but the only long term solution is a gradual, lengthy desensitization. He has also exhibited fear when leaving a building and entering a new situation – perhaps because he fears there may be a vehicle awaiting him.
Aside from his car phobia, Waylon is a truly sweet tempered collie who loves everyone he meets. He enjoys people of all ages and is not at all shy about meeting strangers. He is also good with other dogs, both calm older ones and playful young pups like himself. He loves cats and once they get to know him, they love him back. Waylon is good with children too, but since he is still a young, exuberant dog, he would probably be too much for young kids and would be happier with older children.
Waylon is a smart boy and a quick learner. He is fully house trained on a schedule, but will also let you know when he wants to go out by sitting near you and wrinkling his lip. He has excellent recall, will sit on command and is pretty good with “leave it.” He is also learning to walk on a leash. Waylon still has lots of puppy energy and an enthusiastic approach to life that would make him an excellent candidate for agility training. Because of his quick intelligence, he would also benefit from obedience training.
Waylon is a playful, loving boy who is looking for a family that will help him with his fears and his self confidence. He would love to have a doggy companion – either a calm, self confident, role model or an active, fun-loving playmate. He would also be great with older kids and with kitties. As a young, playful dog, he will need a fenced yard where he enjoy himself and burn off some of that puppy-like energy. His family will need to be very careful and patient with him while he overcomes his fear of cars, but once he has made that adjustment, they will have a smart and loving companion.
