My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Well, hi there! My name is Adele. I am a 5 year old female Boston Terrier who was turned into the Oakland County Animal Shelter. I am a very sweet gal who has a larger than life personality. I am on the smaller side for a Boston Terrier in stature but still weigh in at a whopping 18 pounds. My foster Mom calls me a little whopper!

As some pups of my breed do, I have some eye issues. I had cherry eye surgery to correct my cherry eyes on August 12th. I did FANTASTIC and my eyes feel and look so much better! I have a follow-up appointment on September 4th to have the sutures from that surgery removed. I also have dry eye (often associated with cherry eye) and will need eye drops for the rest of my life. Did I mention that I am SO GOOD for my eye drops! I totally know they help me feel better. And don't worry, the cyclosporine eye drops cost about $14 and a bottle lasts a while. My foster Mom also uses GenTeal which is an over the counter liquid tear that doesn't cost very much either! My eyes have gotten significantly better since surgery, but a new adopter should be aware that I will require life-long care of my eyes to keep them beautiful. You did see that I have one brown and one blue one right?!?

Only to complicate life further, I have also been diagnosed with double luxating patellas. One knee is a Grade 3 and the other knee is a Grade 2/3. I have had them evaluated by two separate veterinarians and both are recommending bi-lateral surgery, meaning surgery on both at the same time. That surgery will be done once I have been cleared to undergo a second surgery. Not exactly the ideal situation for me but I am SO very thankful that I made my way to NBSAR so that I could be so well cared for.

Despite all of the medical issues, I am a gem of a dog. I am confident and outgoing. I run around the house with my foster canine sisters and snuggle with them on the couch. I really am a 'people' dog though. I love my people!! I have no problem being the pushy-for-affection pup and come jump up on my foster parents laps when I am ready to get some lovin' on! I love going for walks and car rides. I am excellent in my crate but will occasionally mark in the house as this is something we are still working on (it is getting better each day.) I learned to sit very quickly at the reward of beef jerky and I am now working on lay down and shake.

I am looking for an owner with dog experience. I think I am the boss sometimes and tell people and doggies what to do and need someone who is confident and experienced to help remind me to understand my role in a home. I appear to love children and could care less about cats. Other doggies are OK but honestly I just want to be held like a baby.

I will be available for adoption after my luxating patella surgery (September mid-late), but if my perfect home was interested in fostering-to-adopt me (foster-to-adopt means that the rescue pays for all of my medical and care until I have completed all of my procedures)...NBSAR is happy to work with my new family in follow-up care at home, etc.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, De-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you think that I might be the perfect addition to your family, please contact the awesome volunteers at N.B.S. Animal Rescue at nbsanimalrescue@gmail.com for any additional information or answers to any questions you might have. You can fill out a simple online adoption application at www.nbsar.org and we will start processing your application right away! We do require that persons interested in meeting me apply online and be approved as an adopter first so please visit our website and submit your application today! Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on it's vaccinations and heartworm preventative as well as spayed/neutered unless there is a documented medical reason on file with your veterinarian. Dogs must be current on DHLPP, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative, cats must be current on Distemper, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative at the time of application. While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and will fill out an adoption application right away, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family. Would you please help me by sharing my picture and information on your Facebook page, or e-mail to your friends and family members? I'm a great pup and I really deserve a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
