Here's what the humans have to say about me:
January 2016 update:
Nixon is a gorgeous, amazing dog! He will be four years old in February and he is a beautiful hound dog - maybe Treeing Walker Coonhound mix? He has met a variety of dogs and does well with everybody. He has lived with dogs of all shapes and sizes and currently lives with two male dogs. He is good with children but tends to guard his family and his home. He is a bouncy boy who would love to join an active family!
Nixon is an active curious guy who walks well on his easy walk harness. He enjoys chew toys and playing games. He is fully housebroken and an all around sweet guy who likes to please. His long legs and lean body will make him an excellent running partner. His goofiness will make you smile.
Nixon, like many dogs who were rescued as adults, can have trouble meeting new dogs on leash. He will bark at dogs on his walks or when he's at the house, but benefits from good leadership and a good deal of exercise. In an off-leash circumstance he does wonderfully with the other dogs!
We had a trainer evaluate Nixon after he was showing some guarding issues and she tells us that he is a very smart cookie who needs mental as well as physical stimulation and that he needs a good leader to help him understand that he does not need to take the job of guard dog. She says he is totally workable with good boundaries and a loving, active family. We don't give him bones because he will protect them. He also works hard to get to people food whether it's on the coffee table, counters or anywhere else he can get to. He doesn't love his crate but is just too naughty to be trusted out of it.
Nixon went to the vet recently and he was such a good boy! Everyone there loved him. He sat, did shakes, and rolled over to submit to the vet. Nixon had been having some trouble with his ears (repeated infections in those beautiful hound ears) and our vets tested his thyroid and found his values to be quite low. Now that we have him on some meds, he is right where he should be and NO more ear infections! Phew! Thyroid pills are very inexpensive and he takes them like a champ!
Nixon also came to an adoption event at the Animal House with us and he was the life of the party, greeting everyone with tail wags and kisses.
This high energy boy is fun and goofy. A tall fenced yard and someone who likes to play would be ideal for him. Nixon might be great at doggy sports, he is agile and athletic. He is a cute, gorgeous, energetic boy! The right family will just love him!
To apply to adopt this dog, please visit our web site to access our application and learn more about adoption through Lucky Pup Rescue, www.luckypuprescue.org, or request an application via email, luckypuprescue@yahoo.com.
Please note, we do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.
