Bernard's Story...
Hello friends. My name is Bernard. A wise elder in my pack once told me my name means “thee abandoned one with a sweet soul and sad eyes” and yes, this is true. I have made it quite clear to my new friends here at the shelter that I have been abused in the past. Unfortunately, no one has taken the time to love me, or teach me anything either. Let’s just say I have had a hard luck life so far. But I am ready to turn over a new leaf and l love my new friends here… Humans and dogs alike! Even the cats that live here are my friends! I see all the other dogs I live with go to homes, but I’m still here waiting for a family of my own. Why doesn’t anyone ever ask to meet me? It only took me a little while to warm up to the good folks here at Family Dogs, and I think I could warm up to you even sooner! I even spent today greeting strangers in the lobby! I keep my crate clean at night, and I haven’t had an accident in the lobby yet, so there is a good chance that I am housebroken. At this point in time I’m still a little bit nervous so a gentle family would suit me best. Please, I ask you politely to take the time to look me in the eyes, and find it in your heart to give me the love I deserve. Xoxoxo-Bernard 3 years old-65lbs. My adoption fee is $160 and includes; neuter, microchip, 5 week Training Class, free veterinary exam (SE Portland/Milwaukie area) ,1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & Treat packet.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bernard, a Portland Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Portland, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
