Look who is looking for you!

They are Shih-cons or Teddy bear pups… a combination of two great breeds – Bichon and Shih Tzu. These little ones are very friendly and social. Low to no shed, they will be between 10 and 12 pounds when they are fully grown. Very sweet and very special – Vanessa is all black, Velma is black and white and their brother, Victor is white and black. These darling little “Angel” pups will be claimed very quickly, so if one of the pups is the baby for you, send in your application right away.

Too young and small to be spay/neutered, with our contract you agree to have your pup altered before he or she is 6 months old. If you don’t choose a low cost option in your area, we can bring your pup back to our vet and have that process done for you. These pups have had all of their puppy vaccines to date. They will need to continue the series of puppy vaccines until they are 16 weeks. Then it will be time for their Rabies vaccine. To adopt, go to our website Takeafriendhome.org and click on the link to the application. Complete and send. For more information, call Deanna at 573-889-9691 or Cynthea 573-714-4232. You can email us at dogs@takeafriendhome.org.

Housetrained? These pups are living in a pen with a dog door to the outside. At this age, they are too young to be any more housetrained than you are. We recommend a piddle pad option until your pup is 12 weeks old. For your dog to be successful: use a crate, go out with your dog, praise “right action”, and expect more of yourself than you do of your dog. Housetraining tips are in your adoption packet.

We bring 65 dogs to the St. Louis area every Saturday. If you would like to meet this dog, just let us know. We are at PetSmart in O’Fallon, MO the 1st and 2ndSaturdays of each month and PetSmart in Chesterfield on the 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturdays – 11:00 to 5:00. We are at PetCo in St. Charles / St. Peters every Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00.

Adoption Fees and Payment Plans: We take credit cards and checks. Payments can be arranged with a credit card. As with all of our adoptions, we know it is hard to get married on a blind date... even to a wonderful pup. We will take our dog back during the first month and refund your adoption fee less $75. To hold a pup, we ask for a $50 non-refundable deposit if delivery is not made during the same week.

About the breed: The Bichon is a most appealing little dog that loves human company. It has an independent spirit, isintelligent, affectionate, bold and lively. This charming, gentle dog is not a yapper. It has a self-assured, happy temperamentthat is easy to live with. These bright little dogs are easy to train and just plain old love everyone. They need people to be happy. They are naturally sociable and are happiest when they are part of a family that takes them everywhere. This sociable trait also means that they are fine in the company of other dogs & pets and are excellent with children. Used as watchdogs and to perform tricks, this breed is competitive and obedient. dogbreedinfo.com

The Shih-Tzu is an alert and spunky little dog. Happy and hardy, endowed with loads of character, they are royally dignified, courageous and sometimes arrogant. This breed does well with polite, considerate children. The gentle, loyal Shih-Tzu makes friends easily and, although obstinate, they respond well to training. A very alert watch dog, the Shih-Tzu likes to bark, but is quiet inside the house. Clever, stubborn, playful and lively, this affectionate little dog needs to be with people. dogbreedinfo.com

The Shih Tzu is a dignified, lively, alert, happy, sweet and playful. He craves your companionship and just wants to be with you. He's very affectionate and loves to cuddle and kiss and sit on your lap. He may be sweet, but he knows how to stand up for himself if confronted. He's friendly and sociable with strangers. He doesn't need much exercise and will get most of it just running around inside. He's one of the most popular dogs in the United States. justdogbreeds.com

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Vanessa Teddy Bear, a St. Louis Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu for sale in St. Louis, or seeking a Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu puppy from a breeder in St. Louis.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in St. Louis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a St. Louis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu breeders who help with Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in St. Louis paves the way for another one to be saved.
