Facts about SPUNKY

  • Breed: Cocker Spaniel/Retriever (Unknown Type) Mix
  • Color: Black - With Tan, Yellow Or Fawn
  • Age: Senior
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Spunky, with his adorable bandit-like mask around his eyes, is a very energetic, healthy, friendly Cocker/Retriever mix doggie who is looking for a forever home. He likes to go for walks and romps and have adventures and play with you, and he would love to have someone active who could take him running or hiking and can be with him a lot as he is heartbroken since his longtime mate, Tali, went to the Rainbow Bridge today. He loves tummy rubs and all the attention you can give to him--loves to be loved up. Spunky is great with people, though he needs some basic training so that he will not jump up on them in his friendly exuberance. Spunky is not always great with other doggies, especially other males, and he will bark at them. He may be fine with a passive female dog who is either the same size he is or bigger. He is about 38 pounds and healthy, though sad and confused at the loss of Tali, and you would never guess that he is 12 years old as he has the energy & goofy friendliness of a much younger doggie. He would like a nice yard in which to play, and it must have a 6 foot secure fence as he can get out of chain link or shorter fences by climbing over them. No condos or apartments for this sweet boy, please. He is housebroken with a doggie door to a secure back yard.

About Cocker Connection

About Our Rescue Group...

Cocker Connection is a small, non-profit rescue organization (Tax ID #73-1653911, The Good dog Foundation DBA Cocker Connection) whose mission it is to save as many homeless cockers as we can in our area. As we do not have our own facility, we depend almost entirely on foster homes to help us with our rescue dogs until we can place them in their forever homes, though we do not always have foster homes and must then board doggies until one opens up. We are always desperately in need of foster homes, so please, please contact us if you are ever able to help by being a foster! Just think of it as babysitting for a friend's dog for a while. Some fosters are short term and some end up being longer.

We also have a sanctuary program available for some of our little seniors who are 10 years old and older. You adopt the doggie and provide the loving forever home for him, and we will cover any medical expenses for him for the remainer of his life.

We also work with some of the other Cocker rescue groups in Southern California, mainly Second Chance Cocker Rescue in Santa Barbara and San Diego Spaniel Rescue. Our doggies come from either their owners or from the myriad of animal shelters in the huge Southern California area.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a facility, so it will be necessary to contact us to set up an appointment to see the doggie in which you are interested.

Our Adoption Process...

Cocker Connection has an Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract which are necessary for all of our adoptions. We also require a home check so that we can meet all of the people who will be involved with the doggie.

We do ask for an adoption donation of between $150 and $350, depending on the age and health of the little one who has been adopted. Our general breakdown is as follows: 0-3 years=$350, 4-8 years=$300, 9-12 years=$250, 13 years and older=$150. (It is less than double the cost if you are adopting two doggies.) All donations go 100% directly to the expenses for our little rescues, so this is not a price for the individual dog, but rather a donation to a non-profit organization to help all of the doggies. This includes all medical expenses (which can be considerable if the doggies need surgery or extra medical treatments or medications!), boarding when we do not have a foster home, grooming, high quality food, toys, beds, blankets, ID tags, collars and leashes. Without our donations, we would not be able to continue rescuing these little lost and abandoned souls. All administrative and transporting costs are donated by the administrators of this organization. With Paypal donations, every cent except for the 2.2% fee + $.30 that they charge us goes directly to the care of the doggies.
