My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gunther!
Gunter is a great dog, very handsomely marked in tan and white, with beautiful light amber eyes. Two years young, he thrives with exercise & consistency and loves his bones, and toys. He is good on a leash, with a collar or harness. Gunther is mostly house trained and does not have any accidents in his crate or when kept on a schedule. Gunther really gets attached to his person, and wants to be with you all the time. He will climb the fence to get out, but not if you are in the yard with him. The two times he came over our 4ft fence he came straight to where I was in the front yard. He simply tries to get close to you. A large yard to play chase in with a buddy would be ideal, or a commitment to walking. He is a large 60# dog that does not realize he isn’t lap sized. He has been known to creep inch by inch into my lap until he is fully in the recliner. He has learned lots more manners since being in foster, and now sits and lays down on request. He is just starting to learn stay, and needs continued work on this command. He comes when called, but that is mostly just because he likes being with you. He is a strong willed dog and needs someone that will help him to maintain polite boundaries. Gunther is very food motivated, so treats will immediately get his attention and focus. He has learned not to jump on people or use us as chew toys, but occasionally forgets himself when very excited, like when he is getting out of his crate after a long stay. He eats and sleeps in his crate and does fine. However, if he knows you are around he will cry for you. He tries hard to please, and a firm no, or fussing noise usually puts him back on track. Gunther does well with other dogs, but does try to collect all the chew bones. We have been teaching him to share and he is doing well. He is also ok with cats, but not yet cat broke, will chase them if they run. He will need supervision with cats, but is more curious than anything, so he will get there in time. In fact he is a little bit chicken, and runs from the chi, and the cat if they challenge him and his energy, but he comes back for more, with playful energy. Gunther is best suited for an active family with older children as he can still jump up and may bowl over the tots!
