Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jackson is a young Californian, and just as sweet as sugar! This boy has a wonderful gentle personality. He loves his food – he’s still growing, and will spin and binky with anticipation and excitement when he hears the fridge open and the greens come out. Jackson was found outside – it took a family several days to catch him, and he was in dire need of medical attention.
Jackson had several bot fly worms burrow into his neck and side and they caused deep abcesses and infections. It took 2 surgeries to remove them all, and several weeks of care and antibiotics to get him healthy again. Now he’s good as new and ready for his forever home. Many people think that because they see wild rabbits in their yards, that a domestic rabbit can survive outside also. NOT TRUE! Domestic rabbits truly suffer from dehydration, starvation, predators and parasites, just like Jackson did. He was fortunate that someone cared enough to work at catching him – it saved his life! He’s currently in a foster home until there’s room for him at the shelter, but if you want to meet him, we will work that out.
Included is a picture of Jackson when first rescued. Having been abandoned outside, he suffered a botfly attack, which is common for bunnies exposed to the outdoors.
The photo is rather graphic, but we felt it important to share as it is the harsh reality bunnies face when left outside and injuries like this is what our organization helps our rescue bunnies recover from.
