My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi Everyone, here is a little update on Dudley. Dudley is now a 13 week old Shepherd/Lab x who gets sweeter with every day.
Since Dudley’s last write up, he has graduated from Puppy class and is growing into a fun well-behaved boy.
Dudley absolutely above all else loves to go for walks. If he sees you moving toward the door and open the closet he comes running and sits by the door waiting to see what your next move will be. Once he knows we are going for a walk he has actually gone and pulled his leash off the rack and waited for us. Once everyone is ready to go he pulls the other dog’s leashes toward the door. It’s like he is saying “come on everybody, we’re walking”. He walks very well, and does great on long distance (5k) walks. As a reward for his walk, he loves to chew on a piece of ice, which really just melts on the floor and he laps it up.
He is super well- mannered at meal times, always sits nicely and waits for his food. He watches every move you make just anticipating the bowl landing on the floor, the tail just wagging away, then devours whatever is in his bowl.
He enjoys the other dogs in our house, playing outside whether it be tug-o-war or chase and then sleeping next to them. He has loads of kisses for everyone when you get home. He is always excited to see you at the door.
Dudley is also a very curious little guy. He watches everything you do and will follow you around the house. Outside he listens to every noise and follows it until he confirms what it is and then moves on.
We have worked with him to sit, down, off, roll over, come and stay. He is very obedient and is incredibly smart. His calm nature helps him to pick up on commands quickly execute them well. Dudley is great with kids and will be a great addition to any home. His brother Finnigan has found his forever home so it is Dudley’s turn now. He is a wonderful pup who has been a pleasure to live with and he will make a fantastic pet for a loving family.

Let me introduce you to the boys, Dudley and Finnigan. They are 7 week old German Shepherd mix puppies that we rescued from a rural pound where they were abandoned. Dudley is the mostly black pup and Finnigan is the mostly tan pup. When the boys were found they were terribly skinny and were covered with lice and fleas. Their bodies were covered in scabs from all the flea/lice bites they had. How someone could treat such helpless babies so poorly is just terrible. Thankfully they are getting great care now and are parasite free and are gaining weight every day. By the time they are ready to go to their forever homes they will be in tip top shape.

These boys are friendly and playful and will make you smile every day. They are also proving to be quite smart and are already catching on to going the bathroom outside. With supervision and frequent trips outside they should be fully housetrained quickly. Their foster family is getting them used to trips outdoors, they are being handled every day and they are getting used to a collar and leash as well. Whatever families adopt these puppies will need to continue the training and socialization we are starting with them so that they grow to be well adjusted and well trained lads. We will require the adoptive families to take the pups to puppy socialization classes and then formal obedience school when they are ready. Dudley and Finnigan will grow to be large sized dogs so it is imperative that they be well trained dogs. We can’t say for sure how large they will be when done growing but with German Shepherd in their heritage they are sure to be large but not massive dogs. They are very smart and very food motivated so training them well should be easy.

Like all puppies, these boys will require families that are committed to putting the time in to raise them right. Puppies need a lot of attention in the first many months and are a lot of work. There is a lot of fun and happiness associated to having a puppy but they do require a lot of your time. Theses boys will not be suitable for families that are away from home a lot or work long hours. It would be ideal if someone were able to let them out throughout the day and even better if someone were home with them or not gone overly long. They will also be active dogs when grown and need families looking to add an active dog to their lives. They will require regular walks and outings and activity. They are currently being fostered with other dogs and are playful and friendly with them.

These pups are blank slates at this age and will turn out to be the dog that you want if you put the effort in to teaching them and socializing them properly. They can live pretty much anywhere although a house with a fenced yard will be ideal. We will consider homes with older children but not young children as these pups need to be the babies of the home and get most of the focus and attention while they are so young. Puppies need a lot of attention and time. We can’t stress that enough. In return you will get tiny little kisses, hours of cuteness, and a little ball of fluff that idolizes you and follows you everywhere with unconditional love. If that is what you are looking for and you have the time to raise a puppy then we just might have the one for you!

An adoption donation of $400 is required. This helps cover our costs for veterinary care including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, heartworm test, deworming and whatever else the dog may require.
