My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lila : 6 yr old BLK Female lab/mix 45 lbs

Lila’s family is heartbroken to give up this sweet little girl. Lila’s humans work full time away from the home and that leaves her alone some days. Her dad is able to take her to work sometimes, but this is not a long term solution. They live out in the country and their property is not fenced, so that leaves Lila on a tether during the day sometimes. Her family wants a better life for her so they called Lab Rescue to help find the perfect home for her.

When I met Lila, she came to the door with a bark to let her owner know that someone was there. She greeted me nicely, she did not jump up on me to greet. Lila was happy to sit by me as I petted her and talked with her mom. Lila is a “leaner.” She was comfortable to lie down and watch what was going on. I offered her a treat which she sat up on her hand legs and gave a woof as to say “please or thank you”, not sure. Her little human kids taught her this trick. Lila does take her treats very nicely.

We took Lila to a dog park she entered very nicely, greeted some friends and just moved on to do her own thing. She would run around a little bit to say “hi” to the other dogs, but would always come back and check in with her mom. She is not much for chasing a ball and playing fetch. Lila could possibly do well in the home with another dog, but she could be a single dog too. As for cats, she will chase them, so a no cat home for this girl!

Her mom had mentioned that she did not get out much to walk on leash. Lila and I took a little walk to see how she would do, she actually did very well. I used a Martindale collar, she did not pull, walked along side of me, she did get a little mixed up on which side to walk, that will take some practice and consistent walks – the basics are there. She rides very nicely in the car; she sat in the back and enjoyed the scenery.

This is what Lila’s family says about her: Lila comes from a loving family of four, who are just too busy outside of the home to meet her needs. Her family knows that she needs to have someone with her, part of the time, and we are just not able to provide that for her.

When Lila is left alone, she barks for her people…which is not a happy situation for anyone. But, when everyone is together, she is a GREAT dog. She loves her kids. They are ages 11 and 7 now. They were 7 and 3 when Lila came to live with us. She is very patient with them and allows them to feed her, take food away and even to dress her up in sunglass, hats and dresses!! It is always a debate at home who Lila loves best…her mom still thinks she is the winner! Lila knows sit, stay, down, wait, ok and speak. She loves treats and will follow you anywhere if she thinks you have something for her.

Lila is not a huge fan of swimming….but, she LOVES to go boating! She will go on kayaks, canoes, paddleboards…She has even been windsurfing in the bay! She loves it! She and her dad like to go boating together. She rides in the car and in the back of the truck (tethered of course), and likes to go camping! Lila is a country living dog. She is not tied up when she is outside for her potty breaks, and does not have a fenced yard. She likes to lie in the sun on the deck and soak up the rays. She’s also very happy on the cool tile in the house, curled up around her mom’s feet under the desk. She likes to sleep with you….if she is invited. She will not get up on the bed without being told it is okay…and she has been trained that she is not allowed in mom and dad’s room (they don’t like crunchies in their bed)! She sleeps with her oldest kid (she has the bigger bed and a blanket just for Lila to sleep on). Lila is very loyal. She can play and have fun with the best of them…but, also knows when it is time to settle down and relax. She is a very loving dog, who stole the hearts of her family. Our family loves her SO much, that they can see that she needs more than they can give, and are willing to not be selfish and let her go so that she can be as happy, and as loved as she deserves to be. She will be a wonderful addition to someone’s family.

Lila is a very sociable and affectionate dog that loves people and would enjoy a home with children over 7. We would like to see Lila go to a home where someone is home a good part of the day. Lila has been well taken care of and is a healthy girl. She is up to date on her shots, spayed and micro chipped. She is also heart worm negative and takes Heart Guard. Lila is located in Santa Rosa.
