My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zach is every ounce the true Lab with all that entails: he enjoys non-stop games of fetch, will scour the house for every lost tennis ball, has no hesitation to get into the pool (even at 40 degrees!), and (despite jumping in the pool in cold temperatures) has the brains to learn quickly. Totally housetrained, easy to crate, eager to learn new commands, (it helps that he is VERY food motivated!), and a bundle of fun to be around, Zach promises to be a true and loyal companion. Zach appears to have been negatively impacted by his former life, as he does need time to trust new people, and can be suspicious of certain actions until he is convinced you mean no harm. We can't imagine who could have possibly been unkind to such a sweet dog, but his new people need to be sensitive to his needs.
Zach's foster dad shared one of Zach's favorite activities- toy diving in the pool! If his toys happen to sink to the bottom, Zach will swim around and around the toy until he makes so many "waves", he can no longer see clearly. He then gets out of pool, waits for the water to settle, and then dives back in to his toy and repeats! Zach is currently in foster care with three other dogs, and until a new arrival joined the family, he was not engaging much with his foster siblings, however, along came a young 1 year old who did an excellent job at convincing Zach he would be so much fun to play with! Zach and he now romp around the yard, and wrestle in the house!

At this time, we recommend that any children in the household are at least 10 years old due to Zach not being comfortable with loud and sudden movements, along with having trust issues. Zach is kind of "cat like" meaning he does have an affectionate side, but he needs to approach you on his own terms. He loves to crawl in bed with his foster dad, and faithful as can be, he walks his dad to the door every morning as he leaves for work, and is there waiting, the first to greet him as soon as he comes home. Zach thrives with routine and needs to know that he can count on his family. He absolutely needs a home with a yard, and ideally a pool. (I'm telling you, this will help you as well, to help him burn some of that energy!) Zach loves to play and will require a lot of your attention to amuse him, but if another playful, active dog is in the household, it will relieve some of the burden for you! Zach is very well behaved inside the home, but does need a strong and capable handler on walks.

If you think Zach is just the boy you've been looking for, please consider giving him a second chance at life and at love.
