My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shadow is a total sweetheart. She is a young adult approximately 2 years old but is still playful and very affectionate. She loves people and would be fine with respectful children of all ages. She likes other dogs and is fine with cats. She doesn't shed as much as you think and with a good daily walk each day she would be calm and contented in the home. Shadow weighs 46 lbs.

Here is what her foster family had to say:

Shadow is a sweet, fluffy bundle of joy! She loves playing and would probably play with you all day if she had the choice. She loves people and is the biggest attention hog ever! Wherever there are people, she wants to be the centre of attention and will sit right in the middle of everyone. Although she does love to hang around people, she does go off by herself to sit in her own bed however when called, she bounces over to you in a heartbeat!

She is so beautiful, and when she sits she always looks like she’s posing but she is super camera shy. Her fur is so soft it’s almost addicting to pet haha but she doesn’t shed as much as you’d think she does! Her fur usually falls off in clumps so it’s easy to spot. She was only shedding clumps of hair after I gave her a bath and that only lasted 3 days. Although she looks like a shedding type of dog, whenever I play with her I don't get any hairs on my clothes.

Her head is so big and fluffy and she loves rubbing it on people! She has the cutest and fluffiest ears, one stands upright and the other one folds a little bit at the top! She seems to still be a puppy at heart, she is full of life and energy so she will require at least two ~15 minute walks per day. If she doesn’t get enough exercise, she becomes anxious and nags everyone to play with her but this can be prevented if you tell her to sit, or lay down, and she will relax by your side without making a peep.

She is a very smart dog, and gets bored easily so we keep her occupied with a huge femur bone! When she is bored, she will move things around the room like shoes. She will bring random shoes into the living room and pile them up in different areas of the room!

She is very good with her food, I’ve been teaching her to sit and wait before I put the food down. She also is very gentle and not possessive with the food. She is smart but stubborn! She knows how to sit, lie down and give paw but she’ll only do the tricks perfectly when there is a treat in hand. She is full of love and loves giving kisses to everyone! She is not a barker, she will only bark if startled (ex. Car alarm going off near her) or when she hears another dog howling/barking. She is a great dog that would do well in a family with children or with other dogs!

Shadow is very social and friendly. Whenever new comers come to our house, she’ll greet them with a wagging tail and kisses. When we walk her outside, she is sometimes hesitant to meet people but always ends up caving in and rubbing her head all over their legs haha. I have not yet seen her interact with children but I’m sure she would love them. She is very gentle, she will sometimes nibble on your sleeve to play but if you say “ow,” she’ll lay down right away and cover her face with her paws!

Shadow is not shy at all in the house. Whenever guests come over, she greets them right away and rolls on the floor for them to pet her. On walks, she is cautious around strangers and will sometimes hesitate when she sees someone approaching, but it only occurs for 3 seconds and then she relaxes and goes about her walk. Shadow is slightly afraid of big roads with many passing cars. She won't stop from fear but she will start to get nervous and look around a lot. If you keep her by your side, and tell her it's okay every time you feel her getting nervous, she is fine.

She loves other dogs, when she meets up with other dogs she approaches them gently and cautiously and lets the other dog sniff her. After they've introduced each other they start playing and she absolutely loves it! She would do great in a house with a doggy sibling or two! When she meets cats on our walks, her ears will perk up and she'll be curious about them but has no interest in chasing them.

She can be left alone at home for up to 6 hours and she'll be okay (no urinating or destructive behaviour). The only thing about leaving the house is that you have to tell her to sit and stay, or she tries to escape!

Her favourite thing to do is play tug of war, chew on her big femur bone and play fetch! She loves playing and will always bring her toys to you to play with her. If you are too busy, and don't play with her, she'll sit on the floor and play by herself! She can play fetch by herself too! She picks up the ball and drops it, and then pounces on it so it rolls away and she'll chase it. It's the cutest thing!

Most of the time, she has low energy and will lie down and walk around normally however when you get her excited (ex. calling her name in a high pitched voice), she'll get really hyper and bounces around the room. This can be easily calmed down by the command "sit." When you come home, she gets really excited and she's so happy her tail won't stop wagging! I'll tell her to sit, and her butt is moving side to side so fast that she can't sit no matter how hard she tries.

She will sit in the kitchen when food is being made, but she won't beg for food. She will not go through garbage or eat anything off the table. She does not chew furniture or shoes but sometimes when you play with her, she will lightly mouth your hands/arms and we usually say "ow" and stop playing with her for her to stop. Shadow is fully house trained! She is not using a crate, and has been very good without it! She is pretty much leash trained, sometimes she will get a little bit hyper and start prancing, but a little tug of the leash will calm her down and she'll start walking normally again. When she walks, there is always a little bit of slack on the leash which is great! She sometimes walks in zig zags before she goes but after she finishes her business, the majority of the walk she'll walk in a straight line. She is good in the car, at first was a little scared of going in, but after 5 minutes she relaxed and enjoyed the car ride.

I feel like Shadow would be best suited with active parents, or with a family with children. She is quite active and will need at least two walks a day to keep her energy level at bay. She would also do really well with a family with dogs so that they can all keep each other occupied!

If you would like to be considered as a possible family for Shadow, please submit an application for consideration.
