My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DEZI

If you love a sweet, sensitive, and gentle soul…look no further. Dezi is a striking split faced young fellow, found wandering with another dog (Lacie, who we suspect is his mother) in Utah. He was never claimed, and is now looking for his perfect forever home through WBCR. He is proving to be a calm, kind, mellower and gentlemanly young dog – we estimate him to be 1 to 2 years old. This boy is a real gem and is going to make some lucky person an outstanding companion.

Dezi has a quiet, steady nature that just worms its way into your heart. This lovely lad does not ask much and appreciates all that comes his way. He is reserved but polite with new people, and will attach strongly to his family. He loves to be a part of whatever his foster family is up to, although if things get busy he goes to find a quiet place to lie down. He currently lives with a toddler. He gets along with all the dogs he lives with (six others) and enjoys running and wrestling and playing with them. Despite his quiet nature, he shows himself to be very athletic and fast when playing with other dogs! He lives peaceably with cats and enjoys watching livestock, but does not bother them. He shows no interest in toys at this time, but really enjoys going for walks and outings. He’s not as high energy as most Border Collies his age, but certainly enjoys being active. He settles down really nicely in the house after his needs are met. At bedtime he savors a few minutes of snuggle time with his foster mom, then quietly sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom.

This little gentleman is not just polite by nature, but also has skills to boast of, too. He is nearly housetrained, enjoys taking naps in a crate, and is familiar with the basics. He comes when called and walks nicely on a leash. He is great in the car, jumps right in and enjoys going for rides. He has been left loose in the home many times for long periods of time (7 to 8 hours) without serious problems. Sensitive Dezi takes treats gently and will do best with adopters who use only gentle, reward-based tactics – even so much as a raised voice sends Dezi away. Like many BCs, Dezi is also very scared of thunder so he needs to be inside his home during storms. He can clear a 6 foot fence, so Dezi will also need adopters who keep him in the home when they are not at home. This, of course, is just fine with him – he LOVES to lounge on the couch! Dezi’s never-ending politeness means he needs to be fed separately from other dogs, since he allows them to take/eat his food.

All in all, Dezi is simply endearing, and deserves nothing less than a family who will adore him. He will do best in a home where he is made a full member of the family and where he is included in everything they do. He would love to have constant companionship, so a family who is home a lot, or if not that, where there are other dogs for company during working hours, would be ideal for Dezi. If you love a quiet, steady, loving dog, Dezi may be the one for you. Whoever is lucky enough to take this boy home is sure to be blessed with a wonderful canine friend.

Dezi is neutered, up to date on shots, and living in a loving foster home near SLC, UT.
