My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Roxy is an exceptional little dog. She is very sweet and loving and has been a joy to have her stay in our home. She is a playful young dog that just wants someone to give her guidance and love. She has a beautiful soft coat that everyone seems to notice, with beautiful colouring. Roxy is approximately 10 months to a year old and weighs 14 lbs.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Roxy needs someone who is going to help her learn more of her basic commands and help her learn that visitors coming into the home are ok and nothing to fear. She is excellent with meeting people outside of the home, so keeping her social all the time will help with getting her over barking at your visitors. Roxy is pretty social with everyone but with some men it takes her a little time to warm up to them. Once she gets to smell them and she allows then to touch her she is fine. She has not however shown any aggression with anyone.

Roxy is really good with other dogs. Every dog that she has met she just wants to play with. As for cats, I think she would be fine. I don't own a cat but when we see cats on our walks she doesn't show any signs of wanting to go after the cats. She shows no signs of separation anxiety, and I have left her alone for 8 hours with no problem. I just leave a lot of dog toys out and she occupies herself. Roxy loves to play with her toys whether it be in the backyard or in the house. She also loves going for her daily walk.

I would say she has moderate energy for a young dog, I take her for about 45 min to an hour walk a day then some playtime in the backyard running after her toys and that seems to keep her energy drained for the night. Roxy seems to be a low shedding dog. Roxy is pretty quiet in the home. She loves to sit in our front window to watch people walk by and never barks at anyone. She will bark if some knocks on the door or if someone is on the property. She does bark at visitors coming in the house, she will bark more towards men then women, but once she gets a chance to smell them and know that they are ok to be there then she calms down. I have been working on this with her and she is improving.

Roxy has excellent house manners. She has never had any accidents in the home or chewed on anything besides her toys. She doesn't seem to care when we are eating and she doesn't counter surf because she refuses to go in my kitchen. I also took her camping one weekend to our trailer and she refused to go near the kitchen there as well. I am very impressed with her manners. She is currently learning her basic commands and she is doing well, but she is still learning. Roxy is fully house trained and she has never had an accident in the house. I did use a crate for the first 2 nights that she was in my home without a problem. She just whined for a few minutes then settled down and went to sleep. I have stopped crating her for the last 2 weeks as I didn't feel the need to because she is very well behaved in the home. She walks well on the leash. She does walk ahead of me but she doesn't pull unless she does see a squirrel.

When we first brought Roxy home we did have to watch her around doors but now that she has settled in she doesn't seem to care about getting out of the door. She did try to jump my fence one day when she was being teased by a squirrel but since I corrected her for that she hasn't attempted to jump over again, but I always keep an eye on her when she is outside. She is fantastic in the car - she usually just curls up on the floor of the back seat and goes to sleep.

I think that Roxy will be best in a home with a nice fenced in backyard where she can run and play with her toys and maybe another playful dog her size. She is quite respectful with other dogs. She really loves being outside. I feel that she would be good in a home with respectful children probably about 8 years and up just to make sure they can handle her playfulness. When she does want to play she can be a little bit mouthy but usually always gentle she just like to feel with her mouth, but if she does get a little rough with the mouthing a simple correction with the word "HEY" and she stops. She just needs to be told her boundaries. She is very respectful that way. Any family that gets the chance to adopt this little sweetheart is going to get a great dog and everyone she meets (whether she barks at them for a minute or not) agrees.

If you would like to make Roxy part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
