My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE 1-31-08 Misty truly is a lucky pup! She has found her forever home with a wonderful couple in York, ME! After such a difficult start to her life, she now has a chance to have a wonderful adult life! Thanks to everyone who has helped her along the way!

UPDATE 1-28-08 What a difference a week has made! This is one smart dog! Misty is doing so great in her foster home. She has warmed up to the guys in the house, unless you surprise her or look different (have your hood up, etc). She is protective and affectionate, particularly with girls and women. She is great with teenagers and adults, but with little children she is very interested and sniffs them like crazy but gets a little spooked if they move too fast. She has not shown any aggression whatsoever but will bark or growl out of fear, and we just put her in the crate - she loves the safety in there. She is completely housetrained, and is working on leash manners. She has already learned to sit, lay down and shake hands! She seems to have much more of the lab personality than border collie, because she spends a lot of time relaxing; not that she won't run when she has the chance. This sweet girl deserves a forever home; could it be yours?

UPDATE 1-22-08 Check out new pics! Misty is in foster care in New England and her temporary family has this to say about her: "Misty is the sweetest girl! She was so very shy at first - she might never have been in a home before, so that would make sense! She took a day or so to warm up to us, but now she is so lovable and wants to be near us all the time. She is still more timid with men than ladies, and might not be appropriate for a home with very small children until she gets more used to people. She is a beautiful girl who has had a rough go of it, and is learning to trust that we are going to take care of her. She's catching on quickly to housetraining and loves the crate, so no problems there. She doesn't know much about playing with toys or walking on a leash but we'll work with her as she gets more comfortable. She even thinks she's a bit of a guard dog! She hasn't shown us that she understand basic commands yet but she does respond to "no" and really likes to go outside. She doesn't chew or jump on people, and her favorite spot is curled up on the couch next to one of us. She's made so much progress in just a couple of days - maybe your home will be the right forever one for her! She loved visiting the vet (thank you, Dr. Hutchins and staff!) and we've adjusted her weight and age - she is 40 lbs and approx. 3 years old. You will definitely want to meet this sweet girl!"

UPDATE 1/18/08 Misty is on her way to New England to a foster care. Stay tuned for more information on how she's adapting, or contact us if you're interested in giving her a forever home.

10/15/07: Misty is a beautiful young girl (about 2 years old) who was surrendered by her owner along with Jake (a chocolate labrador). Misty is still very scared at the shelter. She is very timid and was living outside by herself (Jake was new to the family and stayed inside). Poor baby kept her tail tucked between her legs (at least until the cat showed up). Misty is originally a Katrina dog and was found as a puppy beside her mom who passed away. She will need some training and a quiet home because she has not been socialized much. Needless to say she is not crazy about cats.
