My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Elton a SWEET red heeler mix. He looks like a little fox! We estimate his age at 2 yrs. old and he's a thin 15lbs. Elton came to Angels on Wheels from a high intake/high kill shelter in Oklahoma. He was a stray who volunteers instantly fell in love with. One volunteer took him home to help put some weight on him, and people have been falling in love with him ever since. Unfortunately, while he's been in several foster homes, waiting for a rescue to save him, none of the fosters have room to keep him. Everyone has the same thing to say about this boy: how is such a sweet, loving, good natured boy NOT already in a loving family? It seems to baffle everyone who meets him.

Elton is a lover. He loves everyone he meets whether its dogs, kids, men, women, old, young - all are his friends. It does take him some time when first meeting new people. He barks at them until he's comfortable. He enjoys a good romp with other dogs and then snuggles down for cuddle time with his human friends - or dogs friends if all humans are busy. He spent a few days in a foster home where he was tested around kids going near his toys and food, and he showed no signs of aggression whatsoever. While we're hesitant to put he's housetrained because when a dog goes into a new home accidents can happen, he has yet to have any accidents in his foster home. He is truly a special, special boy!

Part of Elton's thinness has to do with the fact he was a stray and didn't have easy access to food, but he also tested positive for both Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis which are tick transmitted diseases. They are not contagious and very easy to treat with 30 days of antibiotics. We believe it was caught early as Elton doesn't exhibit any symptoms. He's also already putting on some much needed weight and should be perfect soon. Please don't let this stop you from wanting to meet this very precious boy.

PLEASE NOTE THAT BREED, AGE, AND SIZE AT MATURITY ARE ONLY GUESSES!I
If an animal is still posted for adoption, he/she is still available, but might have applications we are processing. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it's in your best interest to submit an application immediately Emails will slow down the process, and while you are awaiting an email response, we may get applications if we already haven't received any. ;Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but gives you a head start with the adoption approval process. We do not schedule meet and greets until & the application is approved. We don't have a building so there are no viewing hours. All of our animals are cared in foster homes by wonderful families who volunteer their time to save these precious souls. We are all volunteers and work as quickly as possible between jobs and friends, and we thank you in advance for your patience.

Elton is being fostered in Lake in the Hills and this is where you would go to meet him with an approved application. Once references have been checked and the applicants are approved, subject to satisfactory references, you will be able to schedule a meet and greet with the foster family. You can find the canine adoption application at our website www.angelsonwheels.org under the adoptions tab of the website. All of our puppies go through a two week quarantine.

The adoption fee of $300.00includes: The spaying/neutering, microchip, up-to-date on routine vaccination for distemper-adenovirus-parainfluenze-parvo, rabies vaccinated if over 4 months, heartworm tested if over 9 months, dewormed with panacur, treated with either revolution or front-line plus, along with any other medical needs. You will also receive a free office visit to Crest Hill Cat and Dog Clinic, Yorkville Animal Hospital, Midwest Animal Hospital in Orland Park, Woodridge Animal Hospital, Wheaton Animal Hospital, Naperville Animal Hospital, and a coupon booklet for Petco.

Please note that we are a foster based rescue and do not have a facility, which means all of our animals are cared for in homes of wonderful people who have volunteered their time to help save them.

Thank you for looking at our rescued animals and wanting to give them a wonderful home.
