ADOPTED ON 05-17-14 - Maggie and her sister’s story is a hard one for us to read. It is tough for us to understand how dogs wind up in the awful situations they do. Maggie is a yellow lab that has a great combination of a working and good-tempered companion. She is intelligence; trainability and playful nature makes her a pleasure to be around. Labs come in three colors, yellow, black, chocolate and white; there is no difference in their personality outside of the fact that a white is a defect.

Maggie is about 8 months old and weighs about 55 pounds. She is an absolute knockout and will win your heart over as soon as you meet her. She is a loving and friendly girl who loves to get as close as can be to people. She is good with other dogs and enjoys their companionship, but she is not a rough and tumble type of dog. Maggie may not have had much formal training, but she just loves to please her humans.

Maggie and her sister Liquorice were dumped by their owners in the woods to make it in the world on their own. It is common for an owner that has a dog with puppies to take them far from home and unload them out of their car. We don’t know if there were other brothers and sisters that were with them and didn’t make it in a forest where baby animals are easy prey for larger animals. Not to mention the bad weather and hunger in their bellies that they had to endure. They had no hunting skills so we can only imagine how painful and scary it was for them.

On May 15, 2013 Maggie and Liquorice were captured by animal control, they were just babies at 12 weeks old. Again they escaped death when a southern volunteer saw them and asked for help from the Winnsboro Animal Shelter and Rescue Dog Village.

Maggie has been cooped up in a tiny cage for over 5 months. As bad as that sounds, it is a much better fate then to be euthanized by the City—all she needs is a family to love her. The wonderful volunteers at the shelter come daily to exercise and socialize Maggie, which helps calm her down. Some of them drive 45 minutes one way and the gas to get there is from their own pocket—they are true hero’s. Maggie is in excellent health because of the efforts and love she gets from the volunteers at WAS. When she arrived, she only needed the basic vaccinations and de-worming.

What the volunteers do say about Maggie and her sister are that they are a terrific family dogs. Maggie is a great dog for children of all ages, she is kind, good-natured, and takes most things in stride. She needs some training in her manors, but that is true of most dogs and especially young puppies. She interacts well with children as long as your children are taught to interact well with her. She has never shown aggression, is very friendly with everyone, is eager to please and responds to all that she is asked to do. True to the breed, she will mature slowly and will remain a spirited teenager for a few years.

Maggie would thrive on exercise and athletic activities. She would do well with a family, a hunter, fisherman, runner, bicyclist, camper, hiker—in other words, outdoor people or activities. She doesn’t have to have a family that is outdoors all the time, she is the kind of dog that would do well with that type of family. We don’t know how she is with cats but we just can’t image that she would have any problem with them because of her sweet temperament.

Maggie has a sweet and gentle spirit and loves to be loved. She needs an owner who will teach her how to become the dog she was meant to be. Like many dogs her age, she is full of puppy energy and she needs direction and constancy in her life. Maggie’s ideal home would an owner who will not dump her in the woods and can provide her with lots of love. With patience and love this little girl will surely turn into a wonderful companion. She wins people over quickly with her sweet charm!

About Our Rescue

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village, we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE'VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well

If you have the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME. Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog!

Please contact RescueDogVillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!

ALL interested adopters MUST complete an application; agree to a vet reference check, phone interview and home visit. ALL family members MUST be in attendance for home visits - no exceptions. This helps us get to know everyone in the family so that we can help find the right dog for you.
