My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTERED IN RALEIGH NC:

Ladybug is a very pretty blue & white, cow patched girl. She is around 2-3 years old, weighs about 53lbs and is spayed, up to date on vaccines, micro-chipped and is heartworm negative. She was treated for heartworms in November 2013, but she is now healthy and ready for her new home!

Ladybug is an easy keeper, house broken, crate trained with a fairly low energy level. She is very food motivated, presents great eye contact and is eager to learn. She's doing well with basic commands, she is still learning and hopefully will be ready to pass her Canine Good Citizen (CGC) soon! She will occasionally pull on leash, but her leash manners have gotten much better and she's walking with a loose lead.

Ladybug is super sweet, loves to snuggle and is kind of a couch potato. She likes to play outside, loves a game of fetch and tug, but overall a lower energy dog. She will do the classic, happy, pit bull -butt tuck- and run around the yard for a minute or so, then she is all ready to return to the couch and chew on a bone. She is a very nice dog, sweet and happy - she is very amusing and will keep you smiling. She is appropriately submissive towards people, good with kids and enjoys belly rubs from anyone that will give one. Ladybug travels well in the car, in fact, she absolutely LOVES car rides! The process getting to the car is very exciting…there are lots of play bows and dancing in place before she tries so hard to sit and wait for the leash (treats come in handy during this time). Once she is in the car, she sits stoically looking out the window or curls up in a ball and goes to sleep - she is good girl and a good shotgun buddy!

She is pretty good with most other dogs, she can be a little insecure, but with proper introductions she warms up quickly. She is currently being fostered with several dogs of all sizes (4lbs-160lbs), cats and birds and has been doing well! She has met several new dogs while in foster care and has been good, but introductions need to be done properly so she doesn't get spooked. Once she makes a canine friend, she will not forget and gets excited every time she greets them. She would do equally well in a home with another dog (neutered male) or as an only dog. She does not have a high prey drive and sleeps in bed overnight with 3 cats and 4 dogs. She sleeps heavy and will sometimes snore, she stay still during the night and waits until you are ready to get up in the morning. At times she can be pretty lazy and doesn't mind sleeping in :)

Ladybug had a good drive for toys and food...especially food! With treats, you have her complete focus (training is much easier with a food motivated dog!), but Ladybug is kind of a -piggy- and she needs an owner that is willing to manage her weight. She is currently at a good weight, but if your not careful she can quickly become chubby. She is the kind of dog that gains weight fast and has a hard time working it off. And although she is good with kids, she should be watched while children are eating food. Just like any dog, she may try to steal some if no one is paying attention or if food is unattended and on a reachable surface. But Ladybug is a soft natured dog and does not need more than a verbal correction to keep her in line.

Before Ladybug came to Annabelle's Second Chance, she was found as a pregnant stray in Louisburg, NC. She was picked up by animal control, gave birth at the shelter and then was spayed by a vet student at NC State and subsequently rescued by her. In this previous home, she lived with a family and their dominate female GSD and the two dogs did not get along. The GSD was not happy there was a new dog in her house and they had to live in separation. She lived there for about 4 months and then came to us in December 2013. In the time that we have had her she has done very well and blossoms each day. Ladybug is a really nice, easy going dog and would make a great first Pit Bull companion.

Please keep in mind that we are a foster based rescue only. There is no facility where these dogs can be visited prior to application approval as they are all in private homes. This is for both the safety of our foster homes and our dogs. Please take a minute to fill out the adoption application if you are interested in one of our dogs. We also do not place our pit bulls in homes with dogs of the same gender. We adopt as single dogs or to homes with dogs of the opposite gender only. We appreciate breed experience.
