My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tripper is a sweet, loveable guy that just wants attention and cuddles! He is always wagging his tail and loves snuggling in to anyone who will give him pets! He is a beautiful beagle with lovely markings, the softest floppy ears, and soulful brown eyes. Tripper is an adult dog approximately 3 - 4 years old and weighs 30 lbs.

Here is what else his foster family had to say:

Tripper has been friendly with everyone he has met. In comes right up to you with his wiggling bum hoping for a pet. He is a very out-going and friendly dog that just loves attention from anyone. As you can see, Tripper is still a little underweight. He is learning that food, toys and love are always going to be available to him now and he is thriving.

Tripper loves to cuddle in bed or on the couch beside you, wags his tail happily and brings his face in really close (but gently) for pets. He likes to put his nose right up to you and look lovingly into your eyes, sniff all over your face, and give you a little "kiss" on the nose. After you are done petting him, he will proceed to curl up and quickly fall asleep, softly snoring. He also loves his walks and can chase a ball (and sometimes remembers to bring it back when he comes running back to you!). But I think his favourite thing is to just be with people and snuggle!!

I would say his energy is moderate. He gets very excited around people, and needs to get out for daily walks, but will find a comfy spot in the house to curl up and sleep when we are out of the house or just hanging out at home watching TV.

Tripper has tried barking when he hears dogs outside barking, but we only had to correct him on two occasions and he doesn't bark back anymore. He barks at the door (basically copying our dog) but stops as soon as the person comes in, then he just wants their attention! He has barked when we have left him in his crate, but he is getting better at this.

He is recovering from his neutering but the incision is healing well. Could still use some more weight on him, so we are not being skimpy with the healthy treats! He appears healthy however and has a puppy bounce to his step. Tripper is learning the word "off" and that he is not supposed to go up on the living room couch. He is also learning to be patient going into the house, is responding well to "wait" or (one finger up) until he is invited in. He loves to follow his nose and sniff out a proper perimeter of every room! He hasn't tried to steal food or counter surf. He will follow you into the kitchen and try to sniff out every drawer or cupboard you open, but we don't give him the opportunity to get into anything.

Tripper does not know the word sit! We are still working on this with him. We were surprised because he has obviously been so well-socialized to people and we think he was likely someone's pet. He is learning "wait", knows "off", and if you gently say "go lie down" he will head over to the dog bed, curl up and be snoring in no time. He understands "no" and looks very remorseful if he has done something that we needed to tell him "no" for. Tripper knows his name and calling him is enough to make him come to you, when he choses to listen. Being a beagle, he is really good at selective hearing! Tripper is house trained but as mentioned, has marked a few times in the house when he first came to us. We assume this was due to his settling in. We make sure he gets outside to relieve himself and keep an eye on him in the house. He has never pooped in the house. We are working on making the crate a calm and positive place for Tripper. He doesn't much like it, as he would rather be with you all time! Tripper walks well when he has a halti/gentle leader collar on. He pulls if he has a regular collar on (follows his nose!)

Tripper would be great as the only pet for someone as he wants all the attention for himself. He is learning to share with our dog however so another friendly pal could be okay. He would definitely need a fenced in yard and not be allowed off leash in an open area, as with most Beagles.

If you think Tripper would be a good addition to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
