My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bio:
I got Rex from the animal shelter May 2013 expecting to have a long life with him. I found out within a couple days that Rex has/had abandonment or separation issues and couldn’t be left alone in the house. I got a kennel for him to be in when I’m gone, which it took a while for him to get used to. Now he lays in it whenever he wants to even if I’m at home, he also has a bed and a sheet to lie on.

I have my son’s cat here and Rex was kind and curious with her, if she hissed or swatted at him, he just backed away and left her alone. Now she walks right up and over him if she want, he will lick and sniff at her and wants to play. We have been on walks around the neighborhood and Rex will ignore most dogs unless they come up to him, he is more interested in all the smelling.

He loves to go for a drive, when we head out and he gets so excited because he knows he is getting in the truck for a ride. If I don’t plan on getting out of the truck with him then I don’t take his leash, he will just run right out to the back on my 4Runner and when I open the back door he jumps right in all excited, he will move from back window to side windows.

Rex is smart and knows how to open the back gate by lifting the handle with his nose; I have a shower ring on there to stop that. He also knows that a door knob or dead bolt needs to be turned as he has tried with his mouth before I got his kennel. Rex sleeps in my room at night for the most part, sometimes he will go lay in the front room, I have caught him twice on my couch in the middle of the night.

He does not know any commands that I have seen, but he will sit if you have a treat in your hand plus I have taught him that he gets a treat every time I put him in the kennel, so now sometimes he goes in there if I give him one for no reason. He has recently started to bark at things and people out front, I have let him only because I think he believes he is telling people this is his house and don’t bother it. (just guessing)

He tries to be a lap puppy at times and tries to crawl up on my lap if I’m on the couch and even more if I sit on the floor. Rex likes to lean on you for attention and when you are scratching him and will sometimes use his front paw to put around your leg like he is hugging it. Anytime we come in contact with people Rex just lets them love on him, kids, old and young adults he doesn’t care. My neighbor and 3 small kids and they reach through the fence to say hi to Rex, most of the time he just ignores them.
