My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jack : 18 Month Old Yellow Male Neutered Lab 85 Pounds

Hi. My name is Jack, I am 18 months old, and I have had a bad leg for 6 months! (I guess I tore my ACL, even though I come from excellent breeding lines.) I live with a wonderful family but they could not afford the cost of getting my leg fixed so they took me into the Vet to have me put down - YIKES! The Vet called Golden Gate Lab Rescue as they knew what a wonderful dog I am to see if I could be accepted into their program. A very nice lady came to meet me and decided they could get my leg fixed and find me a family that would adopt me.

Lab Rescue took me to their Vet who works with rescue groups to have my leg surgery. Once I was under ready for my surgery, they did X-rays only to discover I would need surgery on both legs. (Two torn ACL's - bad luck for me!) Since Lab Rescue committed to me they decided they would go through with the surgeries I needed - Thank you Lab Rescue! I have had one leg repaired and it has healed and I just had surgery on the other leg - not happy as you can see. I have a wonderful foster family taking care of me and my legs. I can’t wait until my legs are all better.

Jack is ready to be adopted.
He is with the mom of the owners of the dog. Jack has been with kids, cats and other dogs his entire life. He gets along with everyone. They describe him as energetic, full of life but also calm and very sweet. He is very gentle with kids of all ages and he is currently around a 4 year old and a new born. He has always been an inside dog and part of the family. He has been out and about and has been well socialized with many dogs. They leave his crate open so he can go in and out when he wants. He knows many commands and will listen to his leader: Sit, stay, down, heel and fetch - he loves his balls. He likes to ride in the car and loves to swim. He does not try to dig or jump fences. He is not a chewer and he does not have any anxiety issues. Jack would make a wonderful addition to any family. Jack's back legs are on the mend and he should not have any issues other than maybe some arthritis and he should not be a dog that plays long games of fetch or a dog to run with. He can go on walks, swimming and he is a dog that needs to keep his weight down and a dog that should not do any pounding on his joints. He is current on his shots, heartworm negative, microchipped and ready to be adopted. He is located in Fairfield.

If you would like to meet this beautiful boy please call rescue rep Liz at 415-613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
