My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult, we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Luna-(tic) is a one year old hairless Chinese Crested and her birthday is on Halloween! She weighs about 10 pounds and has long slim legs like most cresteds. She came to rescue when her owner died suddenly of a heart attack. Luna is a very friendly, playful, and active puppy. (Hence the "tic" addition to her name!) Like young cresteds, she loves running around in her foster mom's fenced in yard with the other Chinese Cresteds in the household. She is also very very playful and funny in the house where the five cresteds, Luna included, love to run and play funny games. There are also a lot of cats and she is just fine with them. Chinese Cresteds are a breed that need to be dressed in warm clothes in the winter, even when they are in the house. They need frequent baths to prevent blackheads and acne. Cresteds, especially the fair skin ones like Luna, need sunscreen in the warmer months as they can develop skin cancer if they are allowed to burn. Please be aware of their special skin needs and the dedication this unique breed requires! Luna will come with a few outfits but her adopter will need to order her some additional clothing. Luna is working on her house training. She was trained on pee pads and has continued using pads in her foster home. She will potty outside, but she's not a fan of the cold! Luna is kennel trained. Luna has a condition in which her tear glands in her eyes do not produce sufficient tears. This is called dry eye and she will need an adopter committed to continuing treating her eyes frequently, every 4 hours or at least twice daily with ointment and drops. With careful attention to her eye drops every day, her vision should be normal for her lifespan. Luna is with a 501c3 rescue. Her $350 adoption fee doesn't even cover her vet care including heartworm test and pills, spay, immunizations for distemper/parvo and rabies, worming and a HomeAgain microchip.

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. THESE CRITERIA ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE FOR ALL APPLICANTS. If you do not meet the criteria for this dog, PLEASE do not apply. Due to the volume of emails we receive, we do not answer those in which the applicant doesn’t match the listed criteria.

• Homeowners: Required

• Status of adopter: 30+

• Previous dog owning experience: Required

• Age of children: 10 and up if respectful of dogs

• Another dog in the home: Really enjoys playing with other dog in foster home--another very playful dog highly desirable.

• Cat(s) in the home: Very safe with cats

• Fenced yard: Physical fence required, no exceptions. Needn't be a large fenced yard.

• Time alone on work days:: Would do best with someone home after 4 hours.
