Here's what the humans have to say about me:
t is said that cats have nine lives. Pippi can attest to the fact that she has had several. She was brought into the CAA shelter as a stray in February of this year as a floppy eared grinning pup, then adopted in early April. But, that is not the end of her story. She reappeared again as a stray at CAA in the summertime, but unrecognizable. She was now a long legged 'tweenager' with a debilitating case of mange. Her shiny black coat was patchy and bald, her skin a mass of weeping and crusted sores. Most shelter dogs in this condition are culled, but the staff remembered Pippi, loved her sweetness and respected her warrior spirit. Her mange was treated and she morphed back into a beautiful glossy haired pup.
But there her life stalled. Day in and day out Pippi waited for an adopter to recognize and reward her ugly duckling/beautiful black swan story. The winds of change blew through the shelter and there were whisperings that perhaps Pippi's cage should be vacated and that she should be replaced by a more adoptable dog.
In her current life, Pippi with the long white stockings, lolloping lopsided grin, satellite dish ears and eyes the color of carefully steeped tea, shares her foster home with six other dogs of all sizes. She is best buds with all of them, including the older alpha mini pin. Pippi is a year old, full grown at about 35 pounds and heart worm negative. She is housebroken, crate trained and a world class snuggler. Pippi greets each day with joy and happiness, a carefully chosen plush toy in her mouth, and a smile so broad she may indeed swallow her own ears.
For more info on Pippi, contact her foster mom at pdcarson@cox.net or stop by The Adoption House on Highland Rd. Pippi will be there waiting for you with a smile so big she may just swallow her own ears.
